Red face 2005 No crank, No start. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gentlemen, I am sure this has been discussed in this forum, but I cant find it and i need immediate help. I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with the 5.3/4L60e. Leading up to the no crank, no start, the truck died on me on three seperate ocassions, but it would crank back up. Then, it died on me as I was backing out of the drive way and then when I pulled in the driveway a day later, it would no longer crank and or start. If/when you put the key in and and try to crank it, the headlights, radio and battery light on the guages come on but that is it. None of the other lights flash or come as normal. Also, when you turn the key to the on position before cranking, the fuel pump is not coming on either. Now, I have replaced ignition switch...no solution. If you cut the lights on and attempt to crank it, the lights do not dim...not a battery issue. At the starter relay, #30 is hot, but #85 is not hot in the key cranking position. I want to think that the problem is in the ignition, but where.

Help me out guys, I do not want to pay for some "ASE GM Mechanic's" Christmas as they trouble shoot my problem over the course of the month of december.

when your asking for help... might want to leave out the snide remarks about people that could help you....

It sounds like an easy fix honestly, I'd be willing to bet you'd really just be buying that good ol ASE mechanic a meal or two...

Man Im not sure if you are, were having a bad day or if you are a ASE GM mechanisc, but I wasn't trying to offend you or anyone. You may not want to admit it but, truth is, when you roll your vehicle into any dealership with an electrical problem, you could spend $500 to $1000 bucks fast. Im not ASE certified but an easy fix is a starter or an ignition switch or a ground or positive cable. But , if I offended you or anyone else, I apologize.

Re: 2005 No crank, No start. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of dealers out there that give them a bad name. But they can charge that because they have people that are trained for years to work on GM products. Plust they have 10's of thousands of dollars in special tools. Yes I am a GM mechanic and dont like it when people bad mouth dealers in general. I am proud of my level of experiance, and have worked hard to get there.

As for your problem, I know it is very easy when you install the ignition switches to get them off a tooth when sliding them into the housing. For a quick check, I would slide it down out of there and wheel it over by hand. See if when you go full start if it engages that way.

Re: 2005 No crank, No start. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlackHillsHD, i here you on your suggestion and I did try that. I found the problem, this may help someone else in the future. I traced it to a bad power source. I ended up disconnected/unbolting the fuse box under the hood. On the bottom of the fuse panel there was a burnt and partially disconnected wire that ran from the ignition inside the truck. There was actually a burnt spot on the bottom of the fuse panel and the wire were partially disconnected. Again thanks!
