I really do not like "shaking things up again " "A Pun on words"but I was out

in the Longview Washington area the other day on the last leg of our trip and there was a earth quake in Monroe Washington where CG lives and was looking here for him to share about it.. We were about a 150 miles south of Monroe.

I say "shaking things up again: as just last July 5th we were out in California visitng our son and wife and new grandchild and we felt a earthquake there ....I guess Monroe was the rest of the earth plate movement for now. Hopefully

So weird, I typed out a response and its gone.

Basically it was a decent quick jolt that woke us up. I did the perimeter search to make sure it wasn't something else.

I didn't post about it because of the recent California quakes, ours was small and quick by comparison.

I believe that you have had a number of small quakes in your area thru the years f I remember correctly.. I also thought I read the one you just had was a 4.? something too.. thx for the update Mark as we wondered if it knocked things off your shevles or not.

Re: I really do not like "shaking things up again " "A Pun on words"but I was out

Earthquake weather is coming early this year.

Last few that we've had here have been in the middle of the night too. Starts with having a dream that the windows are rattling a little, wake up and absolutely nothing. Then just as I'm thinking it was a dream, the damn windows start rattling. About 10 or less seconds later the party starts. Since I was a little boy, Ive always heard them early. Seconds not days.

If I had to choose, I like the ones scheduled in the daytime better.

It seems that they are always from some obscure fault that I've never heard of too. Come to find out that many areas seismically look like stress cracks on a fiberglass boat. You only know the big name guys (think Cascadian, San Andreas) 'cuz well, they're absolutely huge.

I wouldn't call a 4.6 small by any means though. They get my attention anyways.

Years ago we got one of those "small" ones at around 2 am. I jumped outta bed, ran to my oldest daughter's room (she was 7 at the time), and pulled her out of bed by the ankle and drug her halfway down the hallway. The house stopped shaking, wife turned on the hall light and just shakes her head while mumbling something under her breath while going back to bed. Lets just say it was a little awkward. Im sure you guys get the picture . My daughter turns 25 this September and still brings it up. Her boyfriend and I were in tears the other day as she told the story for the 100th time. To this day I still have no idea where I was dragging her to!

Like I said, I prefer the daytime ones.

Stay safe up there CG. Keep cool if there are any aftershocks and don't drag any family members around the house if there's a quake.

I am not going to tell the wife about this story because in California she clinched onto my arm so hard it left a black and blue mark next day or so.. and ,,she might drag me somewhere durring a rumble ...but hey? I understand at least you getting the daughter closer to you and the wife .. and a fun story for you and the daughter to remember to tell the grandkids ..

Re: I really do not like "shaking things up again " "A Pun on words"but I was out

We have had a few pretty big quakes up here since I was a kid. From the millions in damage back in the 60's, to the billions in damage in 01. Its a pretty strange thing to go through if its your first time.

We have had one really good eruption of a volcano here too. Pretty sure most of you heard of that one =).

I think most areas of the country have one sort of "thrill ride" or another that we all hear about.

Priceless... I swear, one day I'll come home and my keys won't work.

Back to the shaking, I we had another couple of tremors. Sunday in Morgan Hill, an hour South and yesterday about 45 min East near that darned Hayward Fault.
At some point when there's enough of them in an area I think they call them "swarms".

Fun useless fact for the day.

And yes, there was that little thing about a volcano in 1980 or 81. Im all good with our earthquakes but draw the line at stuff shooting out of a mountain miles high in the air only to block out the sun for a few weeks and then come down halfway around the world.

Thats a big bucket FULL of nopes far as Im concerned!
