Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

So took a day away yesterday to take the grandson up to the Tuckahoe show in Wye Mills. Hot as hades but luckily there was plenty of shade to sneak up into. There was soooo much to see and look at you could not do it all in a day so I just took a lot of random pics of the different steam engines as well as some other stuff I thought cool.

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

Grandson had a blast and they even have a scaled down train that was open for kids and grandmom's to ride. Poppop's we too large unless they were driving.

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

I have seen advertising on the original Bobcats but had never seen one in person until yesterday. They did a very nice restoration on it

The Maytag washers were displayed in operating condition with the original gas motors. The two washers to the left of the pic had electric motors. Been a long time since I have seen one of these, and was the 1st gas powered one I have seen

A lot of the engines are set up so close it is hard to get good pics but there are acres of them, some inside and some outside.

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

Thanks for sharing this, Richard. That is about the best tractor & steam shows I have ever seen. It's been years since I've gone. Those first Melroe skid loaders are sure cool, and that one certainly looks done to perfection. I have a die cast scale replica. I believe those ran the Wisconsin engines, yet another creation of small engine genius Sam Evinrude

Probably my favorite truck of the show was this old Mack. It was sporting a cummings diesel

Tim,
It did still sport the original Wisconsin engine and it looked showroom perfect. Based on the enclosed trailer and display he had set up I would say it meant a lot to him.

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

They have one building set up with a lot of steam powered machinist equipment. You can even sign up for a class to work on one of the lathes. It looked like most of the machines worked off of one central overhead belt system. They are actively restoring several pcs as well.

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

pics of the one pc being restored.

Although it was a nice day in general (other than being super hot) my highlight of the day was picking up this Wix Blazer for 5 bucks missing a few pcs of trim but it will go on the shelf just the same. There is a pretty decent size flea market near the back.

This one was a multi day event and I think they have another one coming up later this year. If you like this type of stuff I highly recommend it, just be prepared to stay all day if you want to see everything

Re: Tuckahoe Steam tractor show

That corliss engine looks to be a good one. It'd be interesting to know if the engine manufacturing equipment mentioned in the signage could still be used for making spare parts, etc.

Were there any Uniflow engines or condensing engines on site?

I've been fascinated by steam engines since I was three years old. My interests have shifted more toward the last-of-an-era reciprocating steam power plant stuff. Horizontal single-cylinder uniflows are my favorite. Power plant usage of steam engines resulted in the most efficient reciprocating steam ever built. Water rates of 8 lbs per hp/hr have been reported. Coaling rates of 1 lb of coal(don't know the type) per kwh were reported as well, but kinda' stagger the mind...

A dream of mine would be the chance to be involved in building a garbage incineration facility. Using natural gas burners to get a cleaner burn, stuff the pulverized garbage into a downdraft furnace or an underfeed grate. Use this to heat a high-pressure Winslow boiler and superheater, and power three 250kw Skinner Uniflows. Exhaust the steam through a surface condenser. Enclose the whole thing in a art-deco style building themed after the Richmond PECO station in Philadelphia. Basically, use trash disposal as a way to justify the construction of a functioning work of art.

Thanks for posting that looks like a lot of fun. There’s a good size annual steam engine show here that’s a blast to see. If anyone is in the area it’s a worthwhile visit. https://www.pioneer-days.org/apps/photos/
