Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Found me an original front bumper so my bumper guards would fit properly. The aftermarket one looks ok but left big gaps with bumper guards. I can get my fog lights in here nicer cause it's painted.

Yes. Im going to mount the bumper guards on the frame horns and mount the fog lights really close to where you have them.

I see Orange. My favorite color for an engine.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Got my new carb back from being recolored at Chicago carburetor. It looks great. This is the second one I've had them do and they do good work. Just in time to get this engine running!

Late to this party for sure...though I've been following for a little while. Carb looks great. Love the creativity and craftsmanship and the unbelievable parts. Impressive work. Thanks for sharing.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I bought a few different timing tabs for my aluminium timing cover and none of them were correct according to my original timing cover so I used the tab welded to to the original cover and made one. I used a Nos balancer that is exact to my original so this should be correct. I know they moved the marks in the later 70s on the balancers and timing covers so this could be the reason why I couldn't find a correct one. The later balancers timing mark doesn't line up wuth the key way like the earlier v8's.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Started figuring out the transmission cooler mounting. Hope it doesn't take too much away from my air conditioning. The rad is a 4 row so it should be good.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Did the compressor arrive that way by happenstance or did you request the plug be clocked at that location?

Here's some motivation I needed. I'm using por15 engine enamel. I hope it lasts. It sure looks good now.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Looks good. Reminds me I have to paint the rubber oil fill plug on my Blazer to match the engine.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Got my engine on the stand and Unwrapped it. The block and pan need to be painted and it's not assembled yet. Hopefully I can do the block next week.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Got my water pump on and pressed my balancer on. With the aluminium cloyes timing cover being a bit thicker than the original it's tight for space behind the water pump. Can just put a sheet of looseleaf thru it so it isn't touching. Having trouble with the pulleys lining up though. Kind of frustrating. I may try pressing the pulley base plate further down the shaft on the waster pump. It is a 5 5/8" pump. I have the balancer in the exact same spot as my original 327 engine.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I pushed the water pump pulley plate back 3/16" and it sits perfect without rubbing on the pump but barely and everything lines up now! And a few of the air cleaner and the kick down.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Got the water pump I'm using all painted up. I try to use all gm original casting parts but my original water pump would not clear the cloys timing cover without a 1/8" spacer which would put all my pulleys out of alignment more than than the 3/8" they already were so I got an aftermarket one thay does clear without the spacers. I also added a Stainless steel cover plate to avoid the pitting the steel ones all get after lots of use.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

My engine builder put a melling high volume oil pump on my engine and I don't particularly like those so I got a 10553 melling oil pump instead. My screen needed to be replaced so I ordered another one but I was shipped the wrong one. I was hoping to get this running this week. Looks like it's still a few weeks away now.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Love the detail. I thought GMC used a red color on the engine rather than Chevrolet orange. Am I incorrect?
