700r4 to rochester quadrajet tv cable

My transmission mechanic is having trouble properly installing the tv cable for my 700r4 on my rochester quadrajet. He said that the linkage on the carb is not rotating enough to pull the cable as far as it needs to. The problem that it is causing is that when I am cruising in overdrive on the freeway it doesn’t downshift when I give it more gas. I have heard that there’s a rochester quadrajet built for a 350 transmission kick down cable and a different carb built for a 700r4 and I might have the former. I am using a lokar tv cable.

Your mechanic is correctly ensuring proper TV cable ratio to TV lifter/plunger inside the transmission. On my 200-R4 I had to make a small extension in order to get the proper ratio. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=364

Yes he is correctly ensuring proper TV cable ratio to TV lifter/plunger inside the transmission.

I thought about doing something like you did and asked him about it and he didn't think it would work. I am going over there to see him today. Maybe I can explain it better then. He was talking about adding a spring around the cable, between where the cable is clamped and the piece that attaches to the carb linkage. He also mentioned a kit that Bowtie Overdrives sells but it is pricy.

I can find it now but Bowtie had a really good explanation of the issue. If you PM me your email I will send you what I have. No amount of magic cables or springs will get that adjustment correct.

I've done the Bowtie Overdrives kit twice now and am 100% satisfied with both outcomes.
It is expensive but a lot less than a new transmission, install etc.

that's what my mechanic was recommending.
My problem is my next big project is to buy an edelbrock efi. So I don't want to buy a $300 bracket if I will not be able to use it once I get the efi.

If you are going with the ProFlo 4 it works great with that.

Re: 700r4 to rochester quadrajet tv cable

When I bought the Street Demon it said it had a hole for a 200R4. It was close but no cigar. Still had to fabricate and extension to get the valve stroke length correct from idle position to full stroke. It was not for the faint of heart, I must have gotten under the truck to measure that thing 50 times. I was getting goofy.

Re: 700r4 to rochester quadrajet tv cable

Depending on how long it will be until you get your Pro Flo 4, I would resist buying the Bow Tie Overdrives unit. You won't be able to use all or it on the PF4 system. You can use the plate that mounts underneath the carb/tb, but the little bracket that goes on the side of the carb is different than that on the side of the tb. I have their efi and a 700r4. There's a small piece you buy to mount onto the TB itself, it's only about $10-$20 if I remember right, and Edelbrock sells a bracket to hold the cables. It's considerably less expensive.

Here are a couple of threads from the Edelbrock forum to look at;

Hay in your build thread you said you had to go under your truck 30 times and now you are saying 50

My plan for now is to leave every thing as is and purchase the efi and then figure it out from there. Thank you for the links they will be vary helpful. The truck is vary drivable as is just doesn't go as fast as I would like.
