56 and 58 GMC LWB frame lengths

I'm trying to figure out why GMC made 2 LWB's (not including the SWB) in 1957. The 89" and the 97". Can anyone tell me what the length of the LWB frame for a 56 GMC and a 58 GMC is? I looked in a book I have and it said that the LWB frames from 55-59 are the same. I'm not so sure about that.

GMC and Chevy both had a SWB and 2 LWB lengths I believe (i know chevy did). Id imagine the chevys had the same 3 frame lengths as the GMC's. Id have to look up the exact lenghts of all 3 frames from 55-59, sorry I dont know them right off the top of my head. I did have a brochure I had bought for 58 chevy's (got it after I got my truck), that had the lenghts and weights of the 3 different sizes but I cant find the brochure at this time.

Chevy Long Beds were 89 inches from second series 1955 to 1957. In 1957 They increased the bed length from 89 to 97 inches. I am not 100% positive but believe GMC followed the same changes as Chevy.

55-59 short beds are indicated as 77-1/4" or sometimes 77-1/8" Why ? I'm not sure.

My two cents worth. ricobob
