Re: exhaust system

Dragging would be my concern...and then the visual...I don't care to see mufflers hanging under a truck..I like em tucked up underneath..

Re: exhaust system

I would advise another option. You will have serious clearance issues with a muffler under a running board. I can barely get my head under my running boards when truck is on the ground and my 51 is not even that low.

Re: exhaust system

I've had pipes that exited in front of the rear tire on my 48, my 63 and my 71 and there are two issues that you really have to take into consideration.

First is if you have loud pipes the drone in your ear can get real irritating after a hundred miles or more if you tend to drive long distances. Most of the guys who love that setup don't tend to drive far at one time and for some I have known a long road trip is 75 miles one way. It's fun around town on short jaunts and can be fun next to a concrete Jersey barrier for about five minutes but after that it gets tiresome.

The other is that if you have nice rear wheels the exhaust residue tends to muck them up. You get somewhere and while your front rims look like you just detailed them the rears might have a film on them.

Re: exhaust system

another thing to consider for exhaust under the running board, besides the ground clearance, is the heat. your running board may be pretty hot after a run, like melt your flip flop, burn your leg kinda hot.
oxides of nitrogen given off the exhaust will also corode things downstream, like mr48 says, your rims are gonna get dirty and if chrome or steel, they're gonna show rust quicker with any rock chips.
to exit under the running boards you would also need a few hard bends in the exhaust right after the manifolds/headers where the exhaust is the hottest. this will restrict more and also burn out faster
another mr48 note-IT'S FREAKIN LOUD after bit.
i must be getting old, lol. I like a quiet truck. like listen to some old tunes while driving kinda quiet, carry on a conversation and hear the grandkids after kinda quiet.

Re: exhaust system

ok, thanks for the ideas & info. found out the mufflers I have wont fit under the running boards any way. now I need to think up another routing.
my thought was to use 2 tanks like in a 48 or any suburban under the bed instead of the in cab tank. not too wild about a tank under the back of the bed.
