Re: TH350 Intermittent Engagement Questions and Troubleshooting Steps

In the first pic you will need to take the low and reverse piston out of the case before cleaning the case. There are three seals on the piston that will need replacing. As far as the holes you refer to most likely they are machined that way from the factory. They may appear something is wrong but are not.
To remove the rear piston you will need to compress the springs and remove the snap ring that holds the spring retainer to the case
Blow air into the reverse apply feed hole and the piston will come out. The seals on the piston become hard over time with the break down of the transmission fluid from heat.

Yea I’m waiting for that tool in the mail. I have only used solvents for the exterior of the case to get a head start before pressure washing so no water yet. Ok thanks, those holes just looked suspect.

If those holes were in a engine block than it would be a issue but on your T350 its the way they are machined.

Have you taken your pump/stator a part yet ?

Chev, attached are pump stator pics. I found some rust deposits where the cooling lines connect to the case and pump and you can see it in the photo. I’ll make sure I either change the lines completely or blow out the existing ones since they are in good condition.

The TH350C has a lockdown cable as well right? I plan on using a delete kit to remove it but wanted to make sure it was a lockdown and not a tv/detect cable like the th400 since it is a new version of the trans?

Also while inspecting the valve body valves and springs I found that the following spring was broken, there is also no retaining cap holding this assembly in just a pin. Maybe this was the reason for no gears at all?

That is the detent regulator valve/spring. The spring is held in by the roll pin. I added a pic to show. The spring comes in the shift kit.

Ok awesome!

Can you help with this question and I should be good to go:

1. On the TH350C , is the cable going from trans to carb a lockdown or a TV cable?

2. If I do not plan to use the lockup feature, can I omit installing the lockup solenoid?

Re: TH350 Intermittent Engagement Questions and Troubleshooting Steps

Question 1 - The TH350C has a detent cable which is used for kickdown.

Question 2 - I would install the TCC solenoid, if you plan not to use it than do not connect the wiring inside the transmission.

Chev,

Got everything rebuilt and bam, I have all gears now strong. If not warmed up all the way, it will almost stall in reverse. Drive, d1 and d2 are all good.
