Question Caliper and Spindle ???

Ran into another problem on lowering my 69 GMC. I ordered CPP 2 1/2 inch Drop spindles and when I went to install I noticed the Calipers mounting bolt holes seemed to look different.
The bolt holes on the spindle now on the truck were 5 3/4 inches center to center and the new spindle mount holes were 7 inches apart. No fit on these ? I called CPP and they said it looked like according to the measurement that I had S10 spindles and Calipers. The Tie Rod hole is not the same size and no fit also on new Cpp spindles. Did not check Ball Joint fitment.
Anyone heard of this before and best way to resolve.
Get S10 spindles or start all over. Front suspension was supposed to be from 82 model. 1 1/4 rotors fit both spindles OK.
Thanks for any ideas

Post pictures of what you have and we may be able to better identify them for you.

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

The ones on the truck now have 15649948RH CFD7 17 GM and 15649947LH CF010 GM
I can't find if these are part numbers or casting numbers. I tried to look up on Google but no luck converting them.

That is the correct part number for 73-87 spindles.
Posting pics would definitely help.

Well it looks like the front suspension is 72 not 82 as the guy said I got it from. It has the hex head A arm bushings. Still need to find out about the spindle bolt hole measurement Are these S10 spindles on it now and I need S10 drop spindles or do I need to start all over and put the CPP spindles and then change caliper, ball joints and tie rod ends?
Thanks JR

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

S10 spindles are
totally different.
Change your upper ball joint and outer tie rod to the 71-72 version.
The lower ball joint should fit.
Did you check the lower ball joint for fit?

Well looks like I am going to remove the spindles on it now and try to use the CP4S4 which are 73 up ones I already purchased . I will have to get new brake calipers to fit them Can you tell me which ball joints and tie rod ends I will need to finally get it together? In other words will I need 73 up parts instead of the 72 stuff on it now?
Thanks a bunch for the info - JR, doing this job for my son, I am getting too old 74 to lay under these things

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

You need 73-87 ball joints and outer tie rods.
1-1/4” rotors and calipers.

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

I’m pretty sure the spindles on your truck now are 92-98 c1500 spindles.
NOT S10 spindles.
There’s a lot of people that shouldn’t be working on these trucks.
Here’s a 92-98 drop spindle.
Same caliper mount.

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

Those are 88-98 spindles. Someone swapped them to do a six lug disc brake conversion on your 69. It was commonly done years ago, and there is an faq here on it. You have a c20 lower control arm as such, and that will complicate any other 1/2 ton spindle you try to swap in as those arms will not accommodate the c10 ball joint.

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

IF you want to hit the easy button, just buy 88-98 c1500 dropped spindles, as they will bolt right up to what you have already and return all other parts you bought.

Hasn’t it been proven on this board that there’s are camber issues with the 88-98 spindle swap?
Maybe its just with drop spindles, but I still don’t recommend it.

Re: Caliper and Spindle ???

Thanks for posting that. Just goes to show you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. I found two replies in the FAQ where they said it worked, but I’ve never seen any pics posted. I picked up a set of 4” fabtech lift spindles from a 92 in the junkyard and was planning on using them, based on the FAQ I read here on the board. After reading the above linked thread I feel like it will be a waste of time and money to continue that project.
