Re: new wiring harness question

What year?

Many of the GM headlight switches have 2 power feed wires. There is usually a red wire that supplies power to the headlight circuit (and front parking lights for some years). And usually an orange wire that supplies power to the tail / parking / dash light circuits.

The orange wire is typically protected by a "stop/tail/turn" or similarly labeled fuse in the fuse panel so check that if you don't have power on this circuit.

72 switch------I feel the switch should have power at all terminals. actually bat feed only and h/l plug ins.

Re: new wiring harness question

Okay, 72 switch would be like I described earlier ... it should have 2 power feed wires.

Red is the power feed wire to the switch for just the headlight circuit. When on, the switch will pass power from the red wire on to the light blue wire that leads to the high/low beam dimmer switch.

Orange wire is the power feed wire to the switch for the parking & tail light circuits. When on, the switch will pass power from the orange wire on to the brown wire that goes to the parking & tail lights. So if you don't have power coming into the switch on the orange wire, it won't be able to pass that on to the parking & tail lights.
