The find of a lifetime!

Posted over on the Facebook side but wanted to share here also. I recently received a call from a family member asking if I was interested in my Great Grandfathers old truck. I immediately said yes because I had heard this truck was stored away by my Great Uncle when he had passed in 1990. 42K original miles with the original paperwork when it was purchased and inspected on 1-9-1971. Protecto plate, manual etc all still in the plastic and the envelope with Protecto plate is still sealed shut. After getting the truck in my possession I have the papers showing the dealer installed paint to match toolbox, cedar bed rails and grill guard oh and cruise control. It also showed where my Great Grandfather had the truck undercoated at the dealership. The bed had a rubber mat its entire life and doesn't even show any scratches other than a small dent by the right tail light the truck is as it was when purchased new. After a little tlc the truck fired right up and this week I am changing all the fluids and hoses, belts etc.. also a master cylinder is needed. Everything works from the am radio to the CB just one rear side marker bulb is out. This truck is an absolute time capsule and I cant wait to enjoy every minute with it. 1971 C10 Cheyenne Blue with White cap and 42k original miles rust free stored in a concrete block building for 28 years.

Re: The find of a lifetime!

Wow! That's all I can say...
An unrestored original that is basically ready for a new safety and plates before it goes back into service.
Thanks for Sharing.

Re: The find of a lifetime!

You're a lucky man, not only an incredible find but a family heirloom as well!

Very impressive... I would say 'enjoy' it but I think 'treasure it' fits better!

WOW, that is amazing,it is getting harder to find these original, owner trucks these days,I hope you just wash it, fix any mechanical issues, put the original hub caps on and enjoy.I also got my Uncles old 1970,but it wasn't as nice as yours, but I fixed it up and am driving now, very cool.

Re: The find of a lifetime!

Thanks yall its truly amazing and it will be enjoyed for years to come. I have my truck I built so this one will stay in the garage unless its for a cruise to town or something special she's a true survivor! Anything like the wheels and original full wheel covers and the toolbox and rails have been removed and stored safely in case I decide to put it back how I found it. Heck the factory spare still has the titties on it from never being on the ground.

Cool truck! I like that grille! You don't see too many original 71's with the black stripe still existing due to weather, sun, etc.

Re: The find of a lifetime!

Wow!!!! Very cool....definitely don't change anything major that can't be put back!! I still have the original, unused spare tire and carrier in place on my '72, but yours is in much better condition. Copious amounts of truck envy...Thanks!!! LOL

I thought so also thought they would be perfect to keep it as it would have been in the 70s.

Re: The find of a lifetime!

Really cool! You will enjoy that.

It looks to have been converted to R134 a/c. if so that would have been later than 1990. Probably at least 1995 or so.
