Working on the brake(s) ( as in the front )

Hello all

I am just wanting to get some insight or feedback on at hownto tackle this . I have drum(s) all around and want to convert my front drum(s) to disc . Well my question would be ;

What year c10 spindle(s) should i consider in keeping my 6lug stock wheel(s) ( dont want drop it ) and the clearing the caliper(s) the stock wheel ?

Or

What aftermarket brand(s) are preferable in sourcing out option(s) on having this done ?

Thanks for the helping and looking . . .

Re: Working on the brake(s) ( as in the front )

If just changing spindles and keeping your factory control arms, you can use either 71-72 spindles with 71-72 ball joints or use 73-87 spindles using the 73-87 ball joints. If going with the squarebody stuff, grab the 1-1/4" spindles and rotors instead of the 1". The 1" started some time in the early 80s I think.

For wheels, if you swap to 5 lug, any 5 lug truck wheel is made for disc brakes. If going with 6 lug, you could run any 71-87 stock, 4wd wheel (steelies or truck rallies) or go with some aftermarket Wheel Vintiques steelies. I'm going to run a set of 15x8 Wheel Vintiques steelies so I can run original hubcaps

Summit racing has had the best price on the 6 lug rotors for use on 73 to 87 spindles. You need a spindle donor using 1 1/4 rotors. There is a ball joint swap and some tie rod changes to do but doable.

Re: Working on the brake(s) ( as in the front )

There were not any factory 6 lug disc brake stuff. It's real easy to find stock spindles because so many people put drop spindles on. You can run the aftermarket 6 lug 1-1/4" discs on stock 1-1/4" spindles. I believe the 71-72 spindles were 1-1/4", but if I'm wrong, I know someone will correct me

Have you looked into Jim Turner's conversion kits?
