Re: needs specs on Corvette c5 and c6 Upright

Got it squared away... we were looking into the differences between the C5 and C6 Spindles. Turns out the differences are not in the dimensions of the pieces, just some small changes in brake caliper mounting location.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: needs specs on Corvette c5 and c6 Upright

This current "project" that has been mentioned is for a 55 Bel-Air Vert. it's getting all the C5 goodies on a custom chassis... the nice thing is that while I am in there setting up the C5 suspension I can get a lot of the "hard work" done for the next truck venture(s).

There will be a DropmemberC5 in the not too distant future... sometimes my version of time is skewed a bit, so don't expect it too soon!

It will use all C5 components... control arms, spindles and brakes... not too sure on the rack and pinion yet.

As for C5 spindles working on C4 arms... no.

I didn't think they would. I have been looking around for vette front suspension and the c5 stuff seems to be triple the price of c4. I think I am going to stick with c4.

I remember reading lately on one of the g-machine forums that the C5/6 stuff wasn't priced too high?? They were listing dealer pricing on arms/spindles & from what I remember it wasn't extreme (< $150 --> 200 for each arm new). That's similar pricing to a set of ART (or similar) arms but used C4 stuff can be found cheaper.

The big question would be: For our application (a C10 truck) how much more substantial would the geometry gains be for C5/6 vs. C4? The C5/6 stuff is so effective on a Y-body because of the perimeter frame that surrounds it & the ideal 50/50 weight bias. That's unlikely in a C10 w/o some serious effort & customizing.

Would the gains be worth the added exspense if there's any gains @ all?

I haven't checked new pieces but the used stuff seems to be pretty high. A lot of people don't think of gm selling parts cheap but like you say sometimes you can buy new parts from gm cheaper than you can buy used else where. Good point

Has there been any progress on a C5/6 dropmember or is the C4 still the only option?

Just get ahold of us here at the shop 480-297-2621 and talk to Dave. You can also e-mail him: porterbuiltdirect@gmail.com or send him a PM here on the forum "Porterbuilt Direct" is his username. He handles all the calls and e-mails then filters to my "to do" list all the items that I personally need to address. Helps me make sure we don't miss anybody.

79-93 Mustang rack.

Coil-over for sure.... most likely a Shockwave option as well.
