Buying a truck from Mexico - Tips?

Hi everyone, so I recently found a truck, but it's in Mexico. I know a few have inquired about the same thing but I end up getting mixed opinions. I know it's definitely a hassle to bring it back to the states, but who can say no to a $250 truck?

Would anyone really attempt to bring it over? What costs am I looking at?

Thanks

Man you better call your local tag office & ask them.

If he wants to sell it tell him to bring it to Chula Vista or San Ysidro with the title and you'll meet him there. Never, never, never trust something that is too good to be true. It isn't. I see your in Arizona = Nogales US side.

Remember a majority of the stolen cars and trucks, especially in the border states, and ESPECIALLY prior to 2001, ended up in mexico and other central american countries. I'd be VERY concerned about it being stolen. Even if the person your dealing with is honest, he may have purchased it not knowing it was stolen. I'd ask for the vin number and have the local DMV run a check to see if it is OK to register, and before paying, double check that the vin matches what is on the frame. $250 sounds like a great deal on the surface but it may be just a small price for a LOT of trouble. Personally it would have to be the deal of a lifetime of LIFETIMES for me to even consider making a Mexico used car purchase.

You will have to get a level 3 inspection and maybe a bonded title IF they have approved it.

Bought a truck from my uncle here in Oklahoma and it ended up being stolen!I got lucky offered it back to the old man who owned it.He didn't want it back and signed the title over to me.I was watching one of them shows on the velocity or discovery channel the other day they bought a mustang at an auction put some money and effort in it.They found out it was stolen and the police had to come and sieze it.I know it's not much money but why risk it.

Re: Buying a truck from Mexico - Tips?

We bought a OG '60 pullback Bug from a guy somewhat locally. He had it for many, many years in CA before selling it to us. Came from Brazil through Mexico. All seemingly legit. Tons of official paper work came with the car including "Federales" identification, pictures and the like. Nearly an inch thick folder of documentation. We still have the car and the wife loves it, but will never be able to get a "clean" title due to CaDMV not having "history" on the car. Not stolen just no record. It will forever have a salvage title.

There are tradeoffs that come with a "great" deal. Every time.

FWIW, Id save up another 750 and be patient.

250 aint worth getting killed over.

Do they still do the thing where they sell you a cheap car, pack it full of stuff, and as soon as it clears the border, gets stolen back on the US side for distribution? I remember that was a biz model for a while.

We used to cal it a"mule" car/truck.
In fact not to long ago a local Chevy dealership has some wheels stolen off of some new trucks. The thieves stole only the ones that were on the trucks made in Mexico.
Again be careful you don't want some crazy guy looking for the truck
The movie No country for old man comes to mind.......
