1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

I got my eye on a 69 C30 camper special longhorn truck. It is yellow and white two tone. It has a bed that looks like it was lenghtened about 6-8 inches. Has ac, p/s, pb, but not motor. Is this truck worth anything. Body is pretty darn good, but the bed needs a little body work. Just never seen one of these in person or anything and I know there is guys here that know about these trucks. Thanks in advance.

Nah..... a waste of time.... just send me the info so you won't be tempted. :-) Really, these are pretty rare as C30 Custom Camper Longhorns. Most C30 CCs you see are chassis cab motorhomes with RO5 dual wheels. Do you have any pictures? Love to see the SPID as well.

Look down to post #80 and see the one that got away from me. A C30 CC Cheyenne Longhorn

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

Too little info for now. Value is a very subjective thing. The market for this truck is limited as a C30 compared to SWB BB C10s. It would really depend on a lot of things. Options of course are a big factor. Engine and trans as well. Colors and trim level are another deal breaker for some. Rust, location, title status, missing parts are all factors too. Not your first project so you have the idea.
Personally, color and trim are factors for me. I would pay more for a well optioned dark yellow/white/parchment than a light yellow. A missing driveline would just make a late engine sway more tempting to me.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

It would actually be a custom camper. Camper special was ford.
Pics would really help determine a value. I don't think there were alot of one tons in 69.
Longhornman will know...

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

For '69 I'm showing 2457 Chevrolet C30 Longhorns built, percentage with Custom Camper is unknown. As is the GMC Longhorn equivalent production.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

The extended long bed is factory and that is what makes it a Longhorn. They were made to hold a 12 foot camper. The Custom Camper was just an options package with heavier springs and such. I was always under the impression that all Longhorn are C20s, but I am not sure.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

A longhorn has the 8 1/2' bed factory. (133" wheelbase) Custom camper is just another option i believe. I think it may have a swaybar, upgraded shocks etc... I am sure someone else will expand on that.

Oh, and something else.....when looking at this c30, it looked like it sits much higher than other 2wd trucks?? Is this common and why?

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

They certainly did make C30 longhorns. It sits higher because it was made to haul more weight. Most of that ability is in stiffer spring rates but a little is in taller springs too.

The other reason it sits so much higher is because a lot of 1/2 tons are pavement scrapers now.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

The Longhorn was offered in both C20 3/4 ton and C30 1 ton as Fleetside pickups from mid 1968 through 1972 (models CS/CE21034 & CS/CE31034). These trucks featured a 8 1/2' bed. Basically they were a parts bin solution to carrying long heavy campers with a lot of rear overhang.
By building the Longhorns on the heavier one ton frame the wheelbase was extended 6" (from 127"). This allowed the bed to be extended forward, which in turn allowed the load (camper) to slide further forward adding weight to the front suspension thus better balancing the vehicle. However it was not a tailored camper package, but instead a long heavy duty Fleetside pickup sprung as a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. Concurrently Chevrolet also offered a one ton stepside pickup with a 9' bed (CS/CE31004) that could also be "Custom Camper" optioned.

Chevrolet did offer a "Custom Camper" (RPO Z81) nameplate option on most of its trucks. Basically it required qualifying options that were model specific. Examples are front stabilizer bar, HD shocks, springs, tires, ect., but not mirrors.

Below is a 1969 Truck Data Book clip for the C30s. Note that the emblem shown is for C20 on the C30 page.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

As I promised fellas.....I got to tell you, this is one of the nicest trucks I have wanted to buy! The front clip is perfect! Doors are great, except the radio cutouts inside the doors. The interior cab is really nice except for radio dash cut out, and wiring mess. Other than that, cab looks real good. As far as I can see, not much rust at all. The beds wood floor is gone, but all hardware still in tack. Tailgate is solid, with one dent on outside of it. Back dealer bumper is toast. Bedsides are solid, but need some bodywork, but all very fixable. The hood is so damn nice, I cant believe it...as the rest of the front clip. Motor and tranny gone, but I think I will be doing another 6.2 Diesel swap with either a NV4500 or 4 speed auto. The longhorn emblems are gone, but will be looking for some. Looking at the pics...what do you think is a good price on this bad-boy??

Not sure what that square looking gas filler door looking things on the side of the bed toward the front. They are silver looking in the pictures.

And what's that under the front sidemarkers? I see them on both sides.

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

Nice find! Should be a solid truck to restore. The options are good, nice but not too flashy. Solid yellow with painted front bumper and mirrors. Custom Deluxe adds the bright trim around the windows and the vent frames. No radio, black cloth on the inside, I don't think it is reproduced though. Sprung heavy, thinking about buying a camper for it? The squares on the sides of the bed are filler doors for saddle tanks. These are very common for the period and could have been dealer installed or aftermarket. Good Luck!

Re: 1969 C30 Camper special longhorn ??

No camper for me....maybe a travel trailer though. Yeah, I think it is a pretty solid truck. I just want to make it a driver, and fix the dents in the bed...and fix the floor. You think it is worth buying??? Would a thousand be too much, too little???

Here is a picture of a '72 Longhorn without side trim to give an idea of what yours looked like stock.

I think they could be mounting points for shocks/stabilizer bar that would be attached to the front of a slide-in camper. Back then you used to see a lot of front shock/stabilizers on the heavier slide in campers. Have you looked to see what is on the inside of the fender where those thing are?
