Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

Original poster said 1968 horn button. What is different about the horn in '68?

I had forgotten about these, this is what is on my truck. I've been thinking of updating to the newer style with the lights.

Nothing. Many items offered here are differences between years but not unique to one year. Some here got kinda side tracked.

I would have mentioned the ram-assist steering but some '68s have that, too.

72 yes door panels and arm rests are different as well as windshield mounted mirror. Not sure on window regulators I think they are the same through tout the generation
72 window regulator's are 1 year only they had to be longer for the new style door panel's (just replaced my daughter's)

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

Post's 54 and 55... I had not heard about the screwy 67 power steering carrying over into 68.

I had a chance to obtain a complete P/S system at a pull a part yard a couple of years ago, thinking what would I do with this crap. My 67 will be converted to a 68-up style...

I have read here that early 68's have 67 exterior door handles, AND that the doors are different also to utilize the exact 67 handles...anyone??? special K ???

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

So I have a '67 half ton with dented up front fenders. I bought two replacements that are a 69 or 70 ... they have a slot for a reflector and the '67 does not. I couldn't find any 67 fenders locally but I could have bought a reproduction. Question: am I messing up the authenticity of the '67 by putting different year fenders on it?

How about the 1st half 69 only bowtie on the scrolled door panels? Wasn't there a different pattern on the 67 tail or back up lights?

I believe your talking about bullseye backup lights.

Someone may have told you by now but the 69-70 fenders will not fit the 67-68 grill.

There is bound to be a set of 67/68 fenders on the forum for sale. Keep looking

I believe there were carry-overs like that. My friend just got what must be an original early '68 (base). It has dark jade poly paint and the interior is all fawn. There were other things. I thought about pulling a door handle to check.

Yeah, all '69 vinyl door panels are one year only and only some have the bowtie or GMC up top. More years used the bullseye lens than the other, but it's the later kind that's reproduced. 67-70 vs 71-72

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

I have two to add but I will need some conformation here. They may not be one-year only items, but they are two-year only items.

1967 and 1968;
The C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T letters across the hood,
The Choke Delete emblem on the RH side of the dash with
The wiper and light switches are both on the LH side of the dash bezel.

Pictures of the above mentioned items from my '68 can be posted upon request.

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

here is another one year 67 item I found out. the kick vent is the same shape but the handle arm is higher on a 67 than a 68-72. the arm is mounted higher in 67 so you cant see it and in 68 it was lowered so the stamp out is also lower in 68. you cant interchange them without drilling new holes in the cab kick panel.

Thanks for sharing that one. I don't think the 67 only vent handles were mentioned yet either. This thread is getting big so I don't remember now.

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

1968 was the first year for Big Block in the truck line.
I read from a GM publication of the day that only in the first few months of building that the trucks 396 Turbo Jet had the same horse power rating as the Base 396 in cars 325 HP but the truck 396 was very soon detuned down to 310 HP.
So just for a few months in 1968 trucks had a 396 Turbo Jet @ 325 HP

I wonder about the detuned version at the lower power level. My 68 has the same domed cast pistons. same cam, high rise cast iron intake w/ Q-Jet carb.
Same closed chambered heads...although I don't remember the casting number at the moment. All same as 325 HP car engine.

I wonder if it was some PR deal, that chevy didn't want folks thinking they were getting the same hot rod engine as a car, even though it was the smallest HP engine 396, who knows. These days, and nothing is allowed to trump the Corvette, HP wise. Pontiac did the same w/ the GTO...
My 396 originally had the A.I.R injection system, although it was not present when I bought the pickup in 1980...who knows....

I thought the trucks had a different intake manifold?
Do you know if the compression ratio is the same?

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

My heads are small closed chamber heads, I will look at one here soon, report back on casting number, intake is high rise iron intake, looks performance oriented, but uses a quadrajet, I like Q-Jets, can be tuned for awesome performance, many don't have a clue of their potential, no e carbs for me, ever!!!

Re: One Year Only Stuff 67-72...

I'm wondering if the seat mounting is different in 1967 than in other years.?

I have a 67 and just bought new rubber mat from brothers. It is stamped with a "69" (see pic) so maybe it is a 1969 template.?

The second pic is the mat installed. It is hard to see but he original bolts are just to the outside of where the 69 mat is cut out. The lump in the mat is where the bolts holes are.

Anyone know if the seats are different in different years.?

Also people say the 67 seat folds forward but mine does not (unless maybe you remove the bolt). Is it only buddy buckets that fold.?
