72 c10 starting system
Ok, sbc 350 with th400 trans. 168 tooth flexplate. Jegs super lite starter part#10060 there is continuity test from signal terminal on solenoid to starter housing. Which is sending battery voltage through engine block, During cranking????? Shorts out starter.. any help is appreciated

Ok, how many ohms are you reading from the solenoid to the housing? You should have a reading as one side of the coil is connected to power one side is connected to the housing for ground. If it reads as a dead short (little or no resistance) than I would think the solenoid is bad or in contact with the housing somewhere.

0-ohms.that's what I thought also. I had jegs send me a 2nd starter. Same thing...

Yes,works fine. But when bolted to to engine and during cranking there is battery current on engine block. Disconnect wires from starter and simulate starting no battery current at block.

What is the grounding like at the block where the cable connects and where the starter bolts up? Is everything clean? Is the good continuity from battery to starter? What size is the ground the ground cable?
Have you tried running a jumper cable from the starter directly to the ground terminal of the battery? Sounds like you are lacking sufficient ground. |

New 00 gauge wires on battery. Negative battery terminal to passenger side frame.. driver's side rear head grounded to drivers side frame same 00 gauge. Have not tried jumper ground. Also there is a little paint on lock where starter mounts... but still battery current at block?

You need ground to complete a circuit, if you don't have that ground you will energize the ground side till a ground is found, if not everything connected will read power.
Have you tried you meter reading from the starter housing to the battery ground terminal? |

That sounds like it should work but that could change under load. If it were me I would try the jumper cable now.

Just ground straight from starter housing to negative on batt. Makes sense I will let you know

Battery ground cable always go to the engine block never the frame.
I have added several grounds in my engine bay but the main one is Battery ground to passenger side engine block. I then have #6 cables going from both sides of the engine to frame for assurance.
