Interior heater box question

Anyone ever seen a heater box like this before?

Its in a 71 Blazer... i posted the same question over on the blazer board with not much reply... so wondering if anyone over here knows? The right side that hooks to the heater core looks identical... but the left piece is much smaller than the box from my c10... it does still have a flapper for switching from heat to defrost and slots cut in the bottom/side for heat to get to the floor...
Thoughts?
