Re: American Autowire Classic Upgrade Kit
i am wiring my 57 with the kit you mentioned - color charts are very well layed out - all wire is color coded AND labeled .ease of install -very good - they also supply all you need for the new harness - plugs ,connectors etc . i have had no issues at all with the harness - just read and reread and get a plan layed out and you will do fine - if i had a choice of wire companies to do it all over ? i would sill go with AAW.
GOOD LUCK ! |

As for soldering vs crimping I prefer to crimp on a new terminal and rebuild the connector whenever possible. It looks closer to factory and minimizes problems, the crimp tool to do it this way can be pricey though. Sometimes it can't be done if the terminal ends are no longer available, then I solder and heat shrink, I avoid the crush stlyle conectors like the plague I think they look horrible and don't trust them at all JMO Last edited by 55metalmonkey; 11-29-2011 at 12:28 PM. |

Re: American Autowire Classic Upgrade Kit
I put one in my '72 this summer. Never done anything close to this kind of project before.
Took me about 20 hours total. Very good instructions and well labelled wires, bags of parts, etc. You will have to cut the firewall opening a bit to get the new fuse block in, but everything else can be accomplished with a wire stripper, crimper, screwdriver and wrench set. I do recommend some wire loom for the run to the back lights, but everything else you could need is there. |
