Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

Last month I was back in the area of the French Lake junkyard so I stopped by. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular so I just roamed around. This first car is only significant to me because my grandma had one almost exactly like it. She was about 5' tall, maybe. Driving this giant freighter of a car around. The back seat felt like being in a living room to a 5 year old. She had the car for a long time and it was the last one she had. I can't remember my grandpa ever being behind the wheel of it.

I kinda like this body kit for the 3rd gen camaro/firebird...

Well you don't see that everyday. Who wants ice cream?!

A couple of FJ's...

A kit car? It's a Bradley GT. Everything you need to build a low slung gutless sports car.

Pretty close to the Jimmy Rockford firebird.

I know I've posted this one before. I'm just surprised it's still here and mostly intact yet. I'd love to get one. It reminds me of the dodge magnum, but cooler.

I can't believe this is in a junkyard.

It looks like it was driven in here. Dig the fender skirts. I don't think I've ever seen those on a ford futura. Hell, I don't think I've ever seen a convertible futura.

They had a nice square body out front for sale. It was very nice, but there was some wear and tear on the paint and the tailgate was bowed pretty significantly. Didn't stop them from asking a pretty steep price for it, but what do I know? I'm not exactly a dealer for these things. I mostly buy used up junk.

Pretty sweet Olds.

I really like the grill...

Matching interior...

Umm, okay. Was sitting in front of some store. I can't remember where now, but not at a ball park.

Hooligans...

Blazed a nice swath through there.

I really have no idea on this plate.

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

Bradley GT! 1st car I ever drove on the street. I was 13. May have to own one someday.
I dig the P1800 Estate, dislike the sedan. The sedan looks like they put the wrong roof on the car.

Always good to see post updates on my e-mail from this thread!

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

I was out driving around and found a bunch of old 67-72 Chevy trucks. Can you believe it? Thought I'd share...

I can barely remember where I'd seen all of these. My schedule the last couple months has had me all over the place and too busy to think clearly.

Found this one out in my shed. Barely recognised it since I haven't hardly had any seat time this year...

Grain Belt...

Yup, this is a place. In Iowa. Because why wouldn't it be?

Anybody else ever look at these and wonder how they would do out on the salt flats, with a nasty motor in it? Could be good with the small wind resistance or it could be a wing that would be uncontrollable at high speed. IDK, but still, I wonder...

Check out this beauty! Cripes they built bigass 2 doors back in the day...

I like the design of the rear...

Wrong on so many levels...

I like the C pillar style...

Beast mode...

Does this count as a survivor? Or does it have to be an old vehicle that stayed original AND in good condition?

Cool...

Trailer Park Boys...

Doing work stuff...

This was out by the ND oil fields.

Enjoy!

That outdoorsman is definitely funky
But is a very rare truck
Here is mine for comparison

I have never seen another one
And you somehow come across one in the same color!
It’s hard to tell if it’s a 4x4 or not with those ugly wheel skirts
Or a long or short bed with the sleeper

That's cool. I don't think I've ever seen one before either and yours is saweet!

I looked at the original pic but it's not real clear on that either. To me it looks like a longbed 2wd.

I wonder what the emblem on the left of the tailgate is? I'm not familiar with the squares, but could it say 4X4?

Definately looks like a LB. Skirts don't do anything (good at least) for me.

I got to go to New Orleans for a couple days. Saw something out of the ordinary while clomping around the French quarter. BTW, my first time in the big easy.

Thanks, I had a good time. Especially those sunny 75* days. We won't see those again around here until about next May. Not an exaggeration. Here's some more pics from that ND trip.

I think this was down in central Iowa.

Heavy cruiser...

This is in Pipestone, MN. It's named from the rock that is quarried nearby and the stone was used by the local tribes to make pipes, hence the name. Just about every building in downtown is built of it. This is just a few.

I saw this at a dentist office in town. Someone was getting their tooth fixed.

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

At 12:08 today I put on the last piece of siding on my house and garage. It’s been a long time coming and has taken every moment of spare time I’ve had for most of the last year. It’s eaten up all my money and left nothing for car/truck projects but has completely transformed the Wells compound. I still have work to do inside but I can take my time on that. I really want to get back in the garage again.

Looks great! You've done a great job of pulling the house and additions together. Have a seat on that beautiful porch and enjoy a couple beers.

You're an amazing (multi) craftsman Mike, a real pleasure to see what you're into day by day. You've done an amazing transformation on that property so far, and I know you're just getting started. Kinda like the Junkyard Jimmy! Keep it up bud, you'll carve another diamond out of the rough.

I will... when it warms up enough not to freeze my beer before I can drink it.

You're too kind. Seriously. I hope I'm not just getting started. I was really hoping I was near the end or at least as far as the end of the middle. Or beginning of the end. The next major overhaul will be to one of the big machine sheds to turn it into a larger than average shop. I'll need more room once I retire and go full time on the hobbies.

Right now I'm enjoying the lack of labor. I took the week off and I finished the work outside. Yesterday I watched 3 movies and a couple recorded shows. Today I'm sorting through some of the junk in my office, pulling old files off old computers, etc. Staying inside!

I think it turned out great. I really didn’t see it until the before and after pics set next to each other because it was a slow transition and I was working on it day by day. As for the amount of stuff in ND, I’m not sure. I don’t think so because there is so much open space and not that many people. It’s just easier to see what’s left when it’s by the highway. I drove hundreds of miles and only find a few things compared to in MN I find similar stuff in groves and farm yards in a smaller area.

I can’t remember for sure but I think it was Fessenden. I was driving from Minot to carrington on hwy 52. I vaguely remember seeing a sign for Wells county fairgrounds.

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

Happy New Year!

Time for some more pics! Now some of this is like watching your uncles slide show (for you young'uns that some old people crap from like the 1970's. Lets call it instagram for old people. Anyway, I took my first trip to New Orleans in November and there are just a few car pics.

Sorry.

I went to a voodoo shop. Well, not really, they sold fake voodoo related tourist junk. Of course I bought a few things and got a couple ideas for Christmas.

And I drank a couple hurricanes from the original source of them, Pat O'Briens Bar.

Checked out Jackson Square...

I went into an antique gun shop...

Found this 20 shooter. It doesn't fire from both barrels at the same time. It has 2 so they line up with the chambers.

Wandered through an art gallery...

Stopped by the Brass Monkey...

The owner doesn't know where the term comes from either. Or why it's a thing. I was pretty disappointed in that.

I saw a couple rare cars...

Found a curb made of a tree root...

Big scary building...

Actually it's a somewhat famous hotel with a bar that rotates like the restaurant on top of the space needle in Seattle.

This was in the airport back in MN when I flew home.

And that's my 40 or so hours in New Orleans. I did some work while I was there too. Not hard work. Just rode around with my inspectors from the area for a day. Can't wait to go back, and maybe bring the wife. I need to get a couple hurricanes in her.

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff

Last month I went to the motorcycle show in Minneapolis. The main reason I went was to see this new Kawasaki Z900RS...

It's kind of amazing how closely it mimics the old Z-1, an example was sitting next to it. Probably one of the best retro style bikes out there. For me it's just how a regular japanese motorcycle should look. I really don't like the styling of the new "naked" bikes and definitely not the "un-naked" ones. Way too much plastic covers and pointy parts that serve no purpose. This bake is based off their regular Z900, which is a good bike with the typical modern styling and for just a couple thousand more you can get it dressed in old looking style get up.

I would trade my old 82 KZ750 for this in a heartbeat, but not until they are on the market a couple years and I can pick up a used one. I can only ride up here about 1/3 of the year at most and it's not for commuting, so I can't spend $12k on a bike.

Here's a few custom bikes from the show...

Not much of an exhaust on there...

Brake fluid "reservoir"?

If there was some pavement around me somewhere other than the highway I would probably build a couple of these...

Cool sidecar. Hand formed from aluminum. I can't imagine the hours that went into this. Probably enough to build a porch!
