Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

Just bought a square to part out. I needed the running gear for something else and it’s too rusty for anyone here in the desert to go for.
Anyway, it’s a 73 c10. First thing odd I noticed was that it has manual brakes. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a manual disc brake equipped truck. Original engine was 6 cylinder backed by a column shifted 3 speed.
Today I noticed that the seat doesn’t fold.. Was a folding seat back actually an extra cost option?
I wish the glovebox label was still there so I could see how blank it is.
I seem to attract the Plain Janes, but this one is ridiculous.

There were quite a few 73-76 seats that were the non-folding. They starting getting a bit more popular from 77-80. Then ALL the seats were folding from 81-87.

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

77 ex county truck, manual disc brakes, manual trans, 250 L6, manual windows, locks, non folding seat, no spare, no A/C, no cruise, no radio, MANUAL STEERING, 'sport (base) mirrors.

81 3/4 ton, has power brakes because they were required with 3/4 ton, entire option sheet consist of Carmine Red (because my mom complained about all of our blue vehicles), HD shocks, HD cooling, Gov-Lock. 250, 3OTT, Manual steering (a real issue on dry pavement), radio delete, sport mirrors, no rear bumper, no spare. Ordered by my father brand new in 1981.

If I was to keep the 77 I would add A/C. The 81 is awaiting salvage.

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

My father bought his 86' GMC Sierra 1500 Short Bed 4x4 brand new after having his older C10 catch fire. He told me he walked into the dealership and told them "Show me the cheapest 4x4 you have on the lot." and bought it. Black, with white mirrors and bumpers, and apparently had red wheels (if I remember correctly). No A/C, manual everything, but did have a stereo... smallest engine that was available. Some people didn't want to spend money on frivolities, my father included! It was his daily driver from 1986 until about 5 years ago when he finally got a second vehicle.

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

I have a 78,C-10 longbed.
250 six,3 speed on the column.
When I got it,it had no options at all!
It didn't even have a lighter!Just a chrome plug in the hole.
I've added factory air,power steering,radio,and of course a lighter!
I've been driving it almost everyday for over 15 years now.
Mike.

There was a member that had a truck with a heater delete. That has to be the winner.

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

My 80 C10 is manual disc brakes and was from the factory - it was also originally a 250 i6/3 speed manual truck but has been converted to v8/th350/tilt column. No A/C though - it also got a 2.76 12 bolt but only has 4 leafs per side. Its far from original, but the rear appears original at the very least. My truck DOES have power steering (or did, once) but Im not sure if its original or not.

Unfortunately I can't find the options sticker - but I love weird old optioned trucks!

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

The 80 stepper I recently traded away was originally a super base model, 6cyl, 3 speed column shift, manual brakes, radio delete, no lighter, no folding seat.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with manual brakes, i prefer them over power.

Re: Contender for least option pickup. Ever.

It is not a square body truck, but I had a 1967 Chevy short bed truck. It had the fewest options I have ever seen. The spid was almost blank. It had the truck color (blue) and dash pad as mandated in 1967, and base engine. No other options and BOTH radio and heater delete. I also wish I had saved at least a picture of that spid.
