engine swap

i have a 90 suburban 350 tb motor is wore out. i have a 89 454 tb motor from a 1ton truck with 79000 miles. would the computer system support the 454 or will i have to change the computer for the bigger motor. it may sound like a stupid question but i'm a old school carb man and never messed with fuel injection.

Re: engine swap

If i'm not mistaken it should be a direct bolt in. There may be a couple of different plugs needed for the 454 parts, but it sounds like you have all the pieces you need

Re: engine swap

I think TPS and IAC plugs are different, but since you have donor you have parts you need. Computers are same, but chip or pill as some call it are different, but again have donor vehicle to get right one.

Re: engine swap

b454rat thanks for the reply. i'll have to use the one that is there. the 454 came out of my dads truck that was wrecked about 8 years ago if not more, it was stored in a barn. all i got was the complete motor and i believe a b&w (trans and bell housing will separate) granny gear over drive trans except for the shifter. this swap is not set in stone as i have a 305 as well. just had the trans go on my off topic daily and no backup. looking at what would be the fastest fix. the daily is being fixed and lucky i drive a company truck but i don't like not having my own.

Re: engine swap

For a quick fix the 350 prom will run the 454. Shoot, buddy did a Vortec 454 swap in an 82-ish impala, used a 350 ECM till he got the correct one. Now it has a whipple and a 5-speed lol
