Best brand(s) for brake supplies - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey fellow Truckheads,

I'm in need of a new master cylinder along with some wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and spring sets and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on better brands and what have you. I've only looked at O' Reilly Auto but is there any other places to shop from that would be better? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get the Green Beast back out on the road this summer.

When I had mine done the shop preferred Bendix parts - so they said and did on mine.

Centric seems to be the common jobber brand now. Good stuff, reasonable prices.

RockAuto.com carries just about every brand you can think of including Raybestos, ACDelco, Bendix, etc. for shoes and all the other parts you'll need. Good prices and generally fast shipping based on my experience.

My Raybestos master cylinder was still made in usa. So were the self adjuster kits. The wheel cylinders seem to all be made by the same oversees manufacturer from what I could tell. They all require metric wrenches even though the threads are actually standard.

I have had very good wear with my Napa ultra premium shoes, and wheel cylinders. I have shoes on the front and rear. Only thing I would do different maybe is use braided brake hoses.

I do adjust the shoes once a year, the self adjusters are suppose to work but that ive found to be iffy.

Just ordered and received new master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, seals, springs and adjuster kits all from Rock Auto. I didn't order the shoes from them because their are several different options for my C20 so will wait until apart. They will have all the major brands, remans and off brands so you can choose what you want. They are very reasonable and received everything in 2 days. Try Dorman as well. They are an OEM parts place and reasonable as well. Example: Chevy house wanted close to $1000.00 to replace a turbo vane position sensor on my other truck(Duramax). Bought the part for $158.00(Delco part) and did the install in about 15 minutes. LOL
