2 door Yukon/Tahoe factory side steps

I just bought a set of side steps from a guy that said they came off of a 1999. He did not put them on his 2 door because his did not have the factory mounts on the cab itself. Either does mine. I am guessing it’s only the later models that have the mounts. Anybody put these newer steps on older Tahoe’s and Yukon’s? An adapter kit should do the trick but surely someone has had this problem before.
