Difference between 6.5 turbo and 6.5 non turbo

Hi all, planning on a 6.5 turbo swap into my 72 K10. Heres my question, I currently have a complete 1993 donor truck with a 6.5 turbo in it. When I bought it it ran and drove. While idling in my yard it started huffing smoke like you can't believe and pushing raw oil out the tail pipe. Now there is water in the oil also. I have not pulled it apart yet but a 6.5 non turbo motor is available to me and I am wondering if the parts are interchangeable in case I need hard parts. Thanks

Re: Difference between 6.5 turbo and 6.5 non turbo

Most parts are interchangeable the IP pump is not the same. Sounds like the head gaskets blew. Now is a good time to put studs in and not worry about them again. I would pull the heads and check them out don't wait too long or the cylinders will rust out so will the rings. The turbo might be pumping oil also but is not the water in oil problem. If you have the stock turbo on it the best place to put it is in the trash or Ebay. The stock turbo restricts exhaust flow and will cause high EGT's.
