Thinking about dropping one of these in, just as a fun, f**k around truck

I'd much rather have a 400 for the tranny but it is what it is. Am I just dreaming or would this work? I know the 3 useable gears, mated up to the 4:11 rear end, may be an issue. I defer to y'all with much more knowledge than I. Opinions, good or bad welcome.

I think you would enjoy the truck heaps more if you popped an 8.1 big block with a 6l80e or an nv4500 5 speed. You would spend about the same or maybe less. Good luck!!

I'm with clyde..your gonna want a overdrive..my 81 c30 with sm465 and 4.10s was twisting my 350 pretty hard at highway speeds.. when I went to the lq9 6.0 I changed to a nv4500..its very driveable now with the od trans..the manuals may can take that much hp and torque but it wouldn't be fun to stand on it and destroy the trans so I don't know..

I broke my sm465 with a 3.73 open rear end, radial tires, and a 330ish HP 383 stroker. Yours doesn't stand a chance.
