CPP 500 Series Steering Boxes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am moving to power steering and was wondering if these boxes are really an upgrade over a stock GM box.

Also, do I use CPP's bracket (which has mixed reviews) or do I use the Captain Fab bracket.

CaptainFabs bracket. Just used it on my build. So have most people on here for good reason.
I used a stock GM Power Steering Box, I have no educated comment on the CPP box.

I think they are a shorter lock to lock( tighter turning)

1977 and above steering gear boxes are 3.5 turns lock to lock and have a smaller input shaft diameter. Casting #7802644. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...56&postcount=4

We used one on a '68 Chevelle and really liked it. Tighter and more responsive than a factory box.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Astronaut sounds like this is worth the extra money to get the new box, though CPP doesn't have the greatest rep for service with the C10 crowd.

From what I have read about the CaptainFab adapter plate, it will give me a better geometry than CPP's plates. I am guessing that the series 500 box is identical in mounting to a GM box?

I've always bought CPP through their ebay store or Summit Racing and never had any problems. Bought their Stage 4 Pro-Touring kit for the Chevelle from their eBay site and everything went smoothly. Used their spindles/brakes on my '66 C10 and had no problems with those either.
