couple dumb questions

Like I said, this is a dumb question but its driving me nuts. I am going through my Dana 44, open diff. I took the cover off the diff and all the gears, ring and pinion and side gears, all look to be in good shape, I can turn the pinion by hand, but it seems to have a catch in it, always in the same place, this kind of bothers me, but the bearings and everything look good. Is there possibly a tight spot in there somewhere that is causing it to catch?

The other question, I lock the hubs and I can turn the rotor, and the oposite rotor will turn, but the pionion yoke wont turn. is this an issue? I know that if I turn the pinion while holding one rotor, the other will turn since its an open diff, but I dont know that you can turn one rotor and watch the other tunr and not see the pinion yoke move. I am just trying to make sure this assembly is in good order before I put it under my truck.

Re: couple dumb questions

Just guessing ~
The rub you feel may be the rear "slinger". It's like a big washer on the pinion. I think the 44 has them..60 does..but all in all the open diffs feel wierd when moving them around by hand so the axels turing without the pinion doesn't sound bad..it's open so nowere would I expect positive engagement.

Plus being open it's prolly factory and if the teeth are looking good..runit
