Hot or warm wheels?

Decided to was the Suburban just as soon as I got home. First job is always cleaning the brake dust off the front wheela. Noticed when I sprayed down the wheels they dried really fast. Put my hand on the wheels, aluminum, and they were rather warm. I know discs drag on the rotors so there going to be warm but the wheels being warmed surprised me. Is this normal?

Re: Hot or warm wheels?

Theyr are going to get warm when running. How much depends on the type of driving and how much you use your brakes.

How long did it sit before you started washing it and how long did it run before you got home?

Re: Hot or warm wheels?

Cleaner probably shouldn't steam right off,but directions do say "allow wheels to cool before using product". Use the water test. If they just steam it's probably ok, if they sizzle the calipers are probably dragging. Probably a good time to lube the sliders. It seems calipers these days tend to hang up more. I occasionally pull the calipers, spray lubricant at the piston and seal area, clamp them down to retract fully, clean/lube the sliders, and reassemble

Re: Hot or warm wheels?

Thanks for the info. I had been driving 10-15 minutes on back roads and started to wash it just as soon as I got back. They were not so hot you couldn't hold you hand on them but they did dry pretty quickly and that is only reason I noticed. Probably totally normal but how often do you put your hands on the wheels after driving it?
