Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.

Couple more questions. I noticed you don't use a hydroboost, is the brake vacuum booster plumbed directly into the vacuum pump on the diesel? Any problems hooked up like that? Is the radiator and shroud from the diesel truck you got the motor from?

Hey man, any updates yet ???

I got to thinking & if you must have side markers on your fenders, look at some of the side markers on a lot of these little sporty cars in your local parking lots

What comes to mind for me, is some of the newer VW products have small oval side markers with clear lenses

The pic of the '71 with 6.2 in it above is not my truck. I'm going with hydroboost on mine.

Not too much lately. I've just been buying up some of the stuff I'm going to need to do the engine swap and paint/body supplies. I've been working until after dark everyday, so I have had much time to to spend on it. I'll look into some of the lights you are talking about. That yellow dually is awasome looking! I wonder what the drop is on that truck.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.

67_C-30,
Do you know where that 71 mounted his ac? On the 6.2L, the ac is mounted on the drivers side...If you run the hydroboost, you will not have enough room to mount the ac.

Thanks, David

I disagree with your statement sir.

The hydroboost master cylinder doesn't have a big booster behind it & doesn't stick out "that" far, & unless the engine was sunk back into the firewall really far I see no reason for there to be a clearance issue

Now I may be incorrect in this, but I don't see you as being right in stating that it won't work either

I'm interested in this as well. I thought it would fit too, but I haven't actually done it. Would a smaller AC compressor fit?

I dunno. I will get back to you.

Can you contact the owner of the previous pictured truck?

I don't know who owns it. Its just a pic I found on some Diesel site. I can't remember where I found it. It was advertised as having A/C.

Not yet. Thanks for the props. I am currently getting parts and materials together to paint my '69 C/10 and then I'll be back on it full throttle. I do have the engine on the stand and I cleaned, degreased and painted it. Since the turbo diesel I'm using was designed by Detroit, I decided see what it would look like painted the old Detroit alpine green that came on old 6-71's and 6V53's, etcs. The end result is very cool. This was the color Detroit was using in 1967, so I thought it was appropriate. I've made a custom pressure chamber for the turbo that is very old school looking, but I don't want to post pics until I get everything together. I will say that the engine with the sidewinder style turbo on it looks MASSIVE painted this color. I can't wait to see it in the truck! Below is a little sneak peek of what a 6.2/6.5 TD looks like painted Alpine green, but mine will look a little different with the custom pressure chamber and everything on it.

I have also been playing around with some decals to go on the engine and under the hood. Detroit used to designate their engines by # of cylinders -Type of block - cubic inches per cylinder - and "T" designation if it were turbo charged. For example a 6V71 was a V6 engine with 426 cu in. With that being said, the 6.2 TD would be an 8V47-T if that designation was still used. I made up a few different designs of this decal, and another that would be a valve cover decal with all the service parts numbers. I think they'll look very cool on there and definitely different than anything anyone else has.

Will that motor bolt up to the same transmissions as the chevy v-8's. It sure looks like the same bolt pattern on the back of the block. Sorry for the dumb question i just know nothing about diesels

Yes, the transmission bell housing and motor mount pads are the exact same as a SBC. They are a direct bolt in. These engines put out a little over 400 ft lbs of torque with about 10 lbs of boost, and are very durable as long as you keep them cool. The other two 1 tons I've with this engine have averaged around 18 mpg, but will get 20+ all day long in 1/2 ton truck. My '84 K1500 gets around 25.

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.

I have got to hand it to you, this is a very very cool truck you are building, I have long thought of exactally what you are doing. I have a 72 C-30 that I am working on right now. Somthing you might consider is installing a NV4500 as well, I will be posting pictures on a build thread here shortly, I think you might take a lot away from it.

Here is a pic of my Dually "The Boss Hoss"

Re: 67 C-30 Dually pickup build.

Oh one more thing you might consider, this is a swap I have done in the past, if you find a 73-91 suburban in the junk yard, you can pull the fuel tank right out of it along with the frame cross members, these will bolt directly into your truck, some times with no drilling required, I am trying to remember, but I think that some of the suburbans even had 32 gallon tanks. you can also cut the fuel door out of a 90's model suburban, and graft it into your bed side, it looks really sweet, and the fuel door looks like it is suposed to be there.

Thanks. I have a Heath TurboMaster boost controller and I'm going to run around 12 psi. The fcatory 6.5TD settiung is around 6 psi. That is about the limit without dropping down to lower compression pistons. I have a turned up rebuilt 4911 injection pump that I'm going to use. It is the hottest mechanical pump available for these engines. I replaced the factory head bolts and main bolts with ARP bolts and I'm using a DSG main girdle to help prevent main web cracking. I am thinking about intercooling it as well, but I'm not sure about that yet. I'm going to run a 4" Jardine exhaust with a K&N cone filter on the turbo. These engines have a wicked sound with the airbox/silencer removed with big exhaust. The exhaust note sounds like a big block with a rattle, and the turbo whines like a kid wanting candy!
Here is example. I really hope mine sounds as good!
