radiator fan location

I have a 53 GMC 1/2 TON with a stock crate 350 and a new champion rad with 1 1/2 in. bottom and top hose connection I want to know the best distance from mechanical fan to rad and do I need a shroud .probably use a 18 in. 6 blade fan any advice appreciated Thanks

yes you need a shroud to properly pull the air thru the radiator with any fan
distance away does not matter as long as the shroud covers the fan blades

this is a factory v8 shroud for my 59 panel
