Great job! How did you roll the lower rear wheel opening? (where the rust was)

I cut the leading edge 8 inches (where the rust was) and made a front piece to add to the wheel opening. I formed it by hand. Not hard.

No. Doesn't look like magic to me at all.

Looks like skill. A man that is good at his craft. Nothing more. A real pleasure to see any person who is professional in their given field of expertise.

It's like the Photo Hunt game, I keep looking back and forth at the pics comparing the rust stains (errr patina) looking for the missing stains and seeing where they were.

Re: A little off the sides, but keep the patina please...

Some can cut and weld
Some can metal form
Some can paint
Some can fake patina
Some can do one of those with skill

When a guy does them all with great skill and not only fake patina but match the existing patina, that's nothing short of amazing.

You sir deserve some form of Nobel prize

Re: A little off the sides, but keep the patina please...

When I go to a body shop for work (occasional welding), I have no heartburn about paying guys $40-50/hour to do this kind of work for me (although I wish my guy was that good). Who needs Rembrandt, Picasso or van Gogh when there are "artists" among us?

With typical bodyshop rates being more like $80-$100 no wonder you're ok with paying half price!

I'm ambivalent about this, literally. On the one hand I'm amazed at the straight cuts and rejoining. On the other I've already owned a crapload of rusty trucks when I was young. I'm ready for paint! Nice work though.

It's an older guy, small shop, no overhead. I pay him cash. He's cranky, too.

Re: A little off the sides, but keep the patina please...

Thanks for the complements guys, and the humor. That's why I like to be here. Another reason is, of course, everybody likes to be recognized for what they do and the average non truck person would have no idea what they were looking at, even if it was thoroughly explained to them.......oh, and one more thing.....

I AM NOT OLD AND CRANKY!!!.......

Re: A little off the sides, but keep the patina please...

So I have not been on this site in years, frankly because I was giving up on my truck and last week I broke down and put it up for sale on Craigslist. About 12 years ago Ebfabman had made cab repair videos and my wife bought them for me for Christmas. I am stunned and shocked to see him still on here posting, but more so super impressed with what he did up there^^^. Awesome work.

So I almost sold the truck Saturday to a local guy, my wife talked me out of it...

Nitne, thanks for the complements. Hope you don't have to sell your truck. However, all of us know how it goes. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Regardless of what happens, don't stray too far. You'll always be a part of a pretty cool group.
