Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

I bought a Hurst Ratchet Pro-Matic 2 shifter at a swap meet 8 years ago . It had nothing with it, no knob, no cable, no box. no boot, you get the idea. After getting the cable and transmission brackets and having a T handle already and pricing the box with other pieces, I needed an alternative. So finally I had a idea that just might work.

Re: Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

I hand hammered a piece of scrap steel I have had for longer than I have had my '67 step side (20 yrs). made a box just the right size for the shifter.

Re: Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

I came up with an idea for the cable end and it worked and I had a co-worker weld it up for me.

Re: Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

Added a pcv grommet for the cable hole and n.s. switch wires and ran the b/u wires thru the slot made for the shifter cable bracket.

Now I have decide carpet or rubber mat. I live on a dirt road so that might help in that decision.

Re: Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

Looks good to me. Nice fab work! If you're going to be bumping up and down a dirt/gravel road often, make real sure you seal that box up good. Otherwise... you'll never keep the dust out of your cab.

Thanks! I just didn't like the idea of that black plastic box sitting on the floor when I already have the high hump floor. It is just the right height.

Re: Ratchet Shifter Box {my way}

Well ... It's been 9 months or so since I put the shifter in the truck ... I like it . My Daughter borrowed the truck a few weeks ago to pickup a yard sale find and I had to teach her how to drive my truck allover again. She said she had a hard time finding drive . I know the shifter is a bit loose .... Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these ratchet shifters ??? I am thinking of buying this kit to tighten things up.
