Re: Project: 3rd times a charm: 83 c10!

Been awhile since I updated. I haven't really worked on it much the past few months. Just mostly gathering parts.

Did decide on a ls swap (lq4) and ordered he vintage air, scotts under dash pedal assembly and an ididit column so I can start on the engine bay and firewall. Also, got the drivers fender about 60% done. Needs some more planishing and fine tuning but it's getting there.

Re: Project: 3rd times a charm: 83 c10!

Thanks bud! Haven't really messed with it in the last few months. Got a room full of parts waiting to be installed but have been working on a lot of side projects at the shop trying to get a little more cash. About to be finishing up a 57 3100 here soon and will be back on the c10!

Re: Project: 3rd times a charm: 83 c10!

Some the 57 3100 repairs I'm doing.

Cut out rust

Fitting the new replacement panel

Fully tig welded and planished out. Still needs some work but it's about 90%.

Re: Project: 3rd times a charm: 83 c10!

Found time the other day to start the gas doors. Cut out existing filler, wheeled a replacement panel and got it tacked in and planished. Ready to fully weld.

You have some mad skills. Are you doing the 57 for yourself or a customer and what are you sanding your metal with?
Thanks

Thanks man! I appreciate that! Im just an amateur compared to a lot of other folks. The 57 is for a customer. The truck has a lot of original patina but needed inner and outer lower door skins, lower fender sections, lower hinge pockets, and headlight brows. I tried to convince him to leave the patina how it was but he want the holes gone so here I am. Lol. I use a 2 and 3 inch green roloc bristle disc. It doesn't remove thickness of the metal but cleans it enough to get a proper scribe and weld. Then once the weld is planished, i use 80 on a da then follow up with 180 then a red scotch brite pad with Gibbs.

Thanks for the reply. You can label yourself an amateur but me and the 57 owner would not.
Keep up that quality work and showing it.

You're welcome! And thanks for the kind words! I'll have some more pics of the rest of the truck this following week.

Re: Project: 3rd times a charm: 83 c10!

That 57 is sitting nice. Are you going to try and match the patina?
It's amazing the stuff you find in these old rides, mines had foil and steel wool in the 72 rockers.

It has a nice stance. Crazy to think it's just stock s10 suspension. We are gonna try to as best as we can. That's more of my buddies department.. lol I knew I was in for a surprise when I started the lower hinge pocket.. expanding foam out the butt.. lol
