1960 to 62 lower ball joints
this may sound stupid but can anyone tell me if you just cut the old lower ball joints out on a torsion bar suspension. it looks like the only option but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something?

Perhaps these pages from the 1960 Chevy Truck Shop Manual will be of help:
   The ball joints are referred to as spherical joints in the manual. Good luck.

appreciate it but that's not the lower ball joint, its riveted in from the top but does look similar at the frame. also from 60 to 62 its a torsion bar front end. thanks again

The pages above are from the 1960 shop manual and show the torsion bar suspension parts. Page 3-14 (the center page) shows the 60-62 ball joint replacement steps beginning at the paragraph titled "Repairs" near the bottom left. Picture 21 in the upper right shows the attachment design of the ball joints. Here's another drawing from page 3-8 showing the details of the attachment point:
 If yours are different someone may have modified the control arms during the trucks lifetime.

You will have to cut the top heads of the factory rivets and air hammer or punch them out with a hammer (a very strenuous job)! New ball joints will have replacement bolts and nuts.. Good luck!

We ended up drilling out most of the rivet and punched out the rest.. That was the trick that helped me get them out. Cut the rivets out then bolt in the new ones on.
