Question 91 Chevy cab mounts

Well I went to change the cab mounts on the wifes 91 Silverado today and to my surprise the mount was right through the frame support. Does anyone have a good fix for this or a thread explaining what to do? I was thinking of cutting a piece of plate and drilling i to fit the bushing and mount it from underneath. Is this a good idea or what? Thanks for the help in advance.

Your idea will work... for a while... until it rusts out around your plate. The metal for these things isn't real thick and they seem to rust easy. The best way would be to cut the whole cab mount bracket off and weld on a good one. I don't know why truck manufacturers have decided to weld them on instead of bolting them on like they used to.

Future plans-
Rear disc swap & Hydroboost
Dually conversion with shackle flip-n-switch
4x4 conversion with 52" springs
Maybe some new body panels

Could probably bolt one on, just drill holes and use grade 8 hardware

Re: 91 Chevy cab mounts

give it a decent coat of paint, help prevent rust

You could, except this bodystyle doesn't have flanges to bolt to like the previous body style (the way the riveted). This style, the body mount brackets weld to the frame at a right angle with no flanges.

Re: 91 Chevy cab mounts

I had the same problem so I had these made to sit on top of the stock frame support..

Turns out my frame was bad so I did not need them after the new section of frame was welded on..

They are 1/4 thick and could be cut to fit for the under side if need be..If you want I will let you have them for whatever it costs to ship to you..

I still think the best way would be to replace the whole frame support..

Let me know and good luck......

Re: 91 Chevy cab mounts

I haven't owned my 90 for all that long and obviously didn't look it over all that well. When I had the fuel pump replaced, the mechanic pointed out that someone had slid a piece of 2x4 in as a cab mount. The longer I have this truck the more I'm glad I haven't got rid of the 71 yet. I guess I'll have to adapt something.
