How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I have a '50 that's too low in the front to get a jack under (yes, I have a low-profile floor jack). Does anyone else have this problem who can give me hints on how to get the front end off the ground?

If you can drive it up on a 2x6 placed under each tire that may help.

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

where are you trying to place the jack ? ive got a 3" dropped axle & cant get a jack under it. I use the front crossmember to jack up the front or one of the running board brackets to lift the side. works for me

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I've done the board thing at the house many times but carried two jacks with me. One small bottle jack that I would stick under the truck and lift it high enough to get the main jack under the A frame or later the axle after I put it back on a stock frame.

You figure out how to make things work as you go.

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

Back when I had a lowered straight axle truck it was tight for a jack.

I would drive up on 2" x 6"s. Make it easier.

2x6's get the most votes. Sounds like I'd better stow a couple in the tool box. Thank you gentlemen!

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I use a little 1 ton bottle jack under the left front frame rail, it gets it up high enough to get my floor jack under the center cross member!

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

Thanks guys! Several have mentioned the dual jack system. That's what I've been doing too: scissor jack on frame under behind front tire, until I can get it high enough to get the floor jack under the front.

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I'd say that is standard procedure for most of us with lowered trucks. Probably the safest on the road for sure.

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I have driven with one wheel up on the sidewalk curb and one wheel on the roadway when I was not at home and needed under the car. that will sometimes get you far enough off the roadway to get a jack under. remember the park brake.
at home I drive up on step blocks made out of 2x6 or 2x8 when I work on low cars.

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

Just raise the air ride and jack it up

On a serious note.......
Always carry a flat board, 2X6, 3/4 plywood square or something. If you need to jack your truck out on the road you may find yourself on the dirt/grass. The last thing you need is the jack and or jack stand (yes, I carry a jack stand as well) falling over or sinking into the ground.

Be safe!

Re: How To Jack A Lowered Truck?

I got a screw jack out of the LT1 donor chevy caprice. It is only about 2-3 inches tall all the way down and it will jack up to about 12 inches or so. I plan on getting another and have one in both my trucks.

Ha ha, there are advantages to air suspension. My previous car (below) was bagged but I chose to keep things simple on my daily driver truck.
