Here is the plate I welded in, I played with the bench grinder until I could tap them in nice and tight with a little hammer. Then I ground them nice and flush afterwards. Update. I'm sucking air from the tank pickup. Have to drop the tank this weekend and see what's up. No fuel = no start. My tank is a custom 30gal and a real 8!#€ to get out.

The only clearance issues I had on my 70 k10 was the pan hitting the crossmember.

Thanks for the pictures Matt, but it looks like your motor mounts are alot different set that mine maybe because it is a 4x4, good luck with the fuel issues I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run. Clint I hope my 1971 c10 half ton small block motor mounts bolt right up to the military 6.2. It seems everyone's is different, ill just have to drop it in and go from there, this is a popular conversion and I can't find no custom motor mounts so they must work.

Hey Matt that motor looks good inthere like it was made for in it. What rad did you use for motor, is it a 3 or 4 core rad?

I used the 4 core. Told Napa I needed the radiator for a 3/4 72 truck. They even had it in stock.
Good news. It lives! Ran it last night. Major pan leak, I redid the gaskets before the install but this is bad. Think I am going to have to find a new pan. It's also not charging, have to look into that. Posted via Mobile Device |

That was the only motor i have had that got 25-27 mpg great swap i think, There is a lot of military trucks running around with the 6.2 great doner trucks.

Well I straightened out the pan and re-sealed it. No leaks. Figured out the alternator issue too. It's on the road as of today. Purrs right along at 60 smooth as can be.
It's going to take a little getting used to as it drives different than the gasser but first impressions are good. Posted via Mobile Device |

Oh just a very different power curve. Torquey down low, gets off the line pretty well, surprisingly well actually, but see below. On the highway it cruises very nicely and likes to hold its speed but if you lose your momentum for traffic or what not it is a dog getting it back as there really is no top end to this engine. Pass with care on the highway.
While if you put the coals to it you get results It's not quick to respond like a gasser and this is noticeable for in town stop and go driving, something no diesel really likes. It can make the power but it seems like you create all this fuss and commotion just to stop a block later. Think of it like an offensive lineman running sprints, once he gets a head of steam it's just mean to make him stop and do it again. The 6.2 is much happier chugging along in an effortless way at a constant rpm. It's a cruiser. Overall I have to say that it's a very good fit for the blazer, the overall drivability is very nice. Hey Matt, I am really impressed with your 6.2 swap and how fast it seemed to go. Congratulations! I am still in the planning stages of mine. I have the donor truck with everything I need. I just need to finish getting the 6.2 running before I do the swap. I will be swapping a 6.2 with a 700R4 from an 83 3/4 ton 4x4 into a 69 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 4spd manual. I was just wondering what kind of mileage you are getting and how much you like or dislike the 6.2 in your blazer. I think it should have plenty of power and still get good mileage but I thought I would ask you first since you have actually done it. Again, congratulations on a job well done.

So far I am seeing 15 all around mixed driving, that's real calculator figures not guesstimate. I think my fan clutch is shot and robbing some power, sounds like a jet taking off with hard acceleration :-) I've had fans go before and this is that sound. I am just getting away with it because its not totally locked up and the lower rpm range of the diesel makes it not as a obnoxious as when it happened on the gasser. Additionally we are still on winter fuel here. Everyone I know with a diesel around here tells me they pick up 2-3 mpg when it goes back to number 2. Hope I do too.
Power wise I am pretty happy. I readjusted my tv cable a bit and that helped. I had it too tight and it was downshifting far too much. Found the sweet spot. I also discovered that my egr was open a great deal. I pulled the vacuum line off and it runs much better now with some more power. Yours won't have that as the 3/4 ton was a j code and didn't have the emissions stuff. You also get a few more ponies than me. Overall I really like how it drives. Work has been nuts but soon I will do a detailed build post as there are some things to know. Most I have at least alluded to in this thread already. Don't remember if I mentioned the tranny pan clearance issue with the short shaft to go to the np205. I over drilled the pan holes and moved it over a quarter inch and a little hammer massage too. Clears now, but not by much. Maybe .5 inches. There are other things like the hydro boost and the column shifter. They all actually worked out very well but there were some mods needed to do it. I didn't realize hjow different the first few blazers were I am current right in the middle of this same conversion on my 81 k5 I got lucky and picked up a complete 84 k5 that had been rolled has every thing I need to get the job done other then the flywheel since I'm using the sm465 trans currently in my blazer. Any way the one thing I have had to change was the motor mount pillow from the small block to the big block every thing else lines up as is.
