...Many thanks to the participants of this board. I do appreciate your time!
I ended up running both wires to starter. After I re-read all posts this a.m., it makes sense to not have the extra wire. I understand the ballast resistor/extra wire, my 2n tractor has one (its 6 volt-pos grd). Had starter tested while I had it off, looks good. Everything is buttoned up and running. It didn't fix my problem but it looks better/piece of mind thing. Off to see if I got a fuel problem.
