Good place to buy black "phosphate" washers & nuts?
I'd like to load up on new flat washers, lock washers and nuts, grades 5 & 8, in black phosphate. Few questions/points
1. Seems black oxide is far more common than phosphate. Far as I know, phosphate is superior black oxide. 2. With my search I getting mixed results. For instance, Fastenal has some black oxide lock washers, though not all the common sizes (e.g., 7/16 & 5/8). Additionally, there's no mention of grade, so I assume they're grade 2. Auveco seems to come up short as well. 3. Anyone advise of a good single source for black washers and nuts in the correct sizes, whether phosphate or oxide? Perhaps black zinc? Thanks

Thanks for the info.
Still digesting all what Grumps provided. Learned one thing, hot black oxide stainless is a great option.

I'd look into making my own black phosphate hardware.

Re: Good place to buy black "phosphate" washers & nuts?
i buy lots of these bolts from the "bolt barn " on the internet or e-bay ! i like to use the non plastic lock nuts w/ the flange on them ! i do a lot of trucks -sometimes they need the spring hangers or crossmember removed to clean up rust ! & i have to cut the rivets sometimes ! so on assembly i just use those plated bolts -sure looks better that the factory stuff !!!!
