Brake Booster Finish

I know this has been addressed, but I cannot find a definitive answer that matches the evidence.

My general understanding is Bendix boosters were black and Delco-Moraine were the gold plating. However, I have yet to see a survivor truck on which the Delco was in fact gold. Im not denying, just that I have not personally seen.

My truck has what I believe to be the original booster (based upon numbers and the rest of the truck). I cannot see any remaining plating whatsoever. I can also see the original inspection paint dab. I would not think they would plate over the paint dab and I cannot see any plating under the paint dab.

Can anyone verify they have an original Delco booster and that it was gold plated (color not element)? I know some of the cars were gold plated but trying to confirm for my truck restoration.

Re: Brake Booster Finish

I do not know the definitive answer to your question, but if that is in fact the original booster on your truck, I would think that the gold plating would tarnish to what you are currently seeing.

Re: Brake Booster Finish

That gold-ish color is cadmium plating. As mkmc69 says, it's oxidized to that color.

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I knew zinc wasn't correct, but I couldn't come up with the correct word.

Re: Brake Booster Finish

My original Delco booster was cadmium.
