Tangled hacked mess of fire wire.

My underdash harness has seen better days so I'm looking at purchasing a new one from:
-Classic parts / under $400
-Gmcpauls / under $400
-American auto / under $500
I want to use the factory firewall plug which is already new on the motor side and am not sure if I want old glass fuses or newer plastic ones.
I'm looking for insight from some first hand experience through you guys.
With all of the wiring harness out there, which do you guys run and which do you not? And why?

Re: Tangled hacked mess of fire wire.

I would recommend putting in headlight relays (if your new harness doesn't include them). There is a lot of additional current on the system from this.

I ended up using my stock harness and haven't had any issues, I know this doesn't work for you as yours has been hacked. You could get a good used harness though.

For aftermarket stuff, I would go with blade style fuses. It reduces the size of the box, they are easier to pull and a lot more common these days.

Re: Tangled hacked mess of fire wire.

The blade style fuses come in the upgrade series from AAW. That uses a '68+ firewall plug layout size which requires the square firewall opening to be slightly enlarged and the two screw hole locations changed. It isn't hard. It could be done with a dremel cut off wheel. (your blazer is based on a '67 designed truck). I don't know if you can get an exact factory box duplicate with blade style fuses or only with original glass style.

I also don't know if the Engine side plug is a direct fit because I changed all my wiring at the same time. A quick call to AAW would answer that question.

Re: Tangled hacked mess of fire wire.

I used AAW on my son's 68 GMC 3/4ton and now I am doing my 72 GMC Jimmy with AAW very easy to follow instructions.

I have an underdash harness with good wires but the fuse block corner is broken off and missing.
