Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
I finally started piecing together my crate engine and dry fitting the parts.
Apparently, the "tits" that stick out on the edelbrock performer intake wouldn't let it set down in the valley. No problem, I popped off the valve covers and set it in place. Now the valve covers were hitting the tits. So I got my cool finned edelbrock valve covers out... even worse. It's not a big deal, I shaved the tits off, but I find it odd I would even have to do this on a gen 1 350 when these intakes have been around forever?

Re: Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
It's pretty common. Heck I had to re-shape the top of the intake runner to clear a set of fabricated valve cover. The 'stock tin ' covers will just clear, but once you try the aftermarket cast (yes even Edelbrock's own) or fabricated aluminum valve covers it's pretty common,

Re: Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
That's what I thought, and why I just went ahead and trimmed them, but why the heck would parts intended to fit together not actually fit together?
I even carefully placed the gaskets to see if that made a difference... nope... I wonder if it has something to do with how they're actually cast.

Re: Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
My guess is that they are leftovers from the casting process. Probably from the casting mold, either as an injection point or a release point. Many cast parts have odd nubs like this for that reason. I agree with everyone else, grind them off. Someone should probably report it to Edelbrock. At one time, they could have been intended to be machined off during final prep, and then they later decided to cut costs at the installers expense.

Re: Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
Thanks guys! I did cut them off, it was the only way to set my cool valve covers on.

Re: Edelbrock Intake tabs stick out too far?
Man, I remember I bought them because I found them somewhere NIB for a stupid good price, I think they're normally $250. I was recently looking for the matching air cleaner and the best I found was +/- $150. I will get it, but it can wait a bit!
