Sound great Doug! I do have the converter. In fact the engine and trans have never been separated. Guess I need to work on that before you get there

Finally! I get to spend a Friday night out in the garage. Mainly rearranging, a little cleaning and adding a second TV (because one is not enough).

Had a productive day out in the garage today, met a fellow board member, and sold a transmission. Have to say today was a good day. Thanks again Doug for the help, I really appreciated and enjoyed it.

With the help of Doug, we separated the engine and transmission, loaded the trans in his truck and put the engine on the stand. I then started a basic tear down and cleaning. I was able to get (3) header bolts out, two were already broke off and the rest are seized. Their bathing in PB Blaster as I type. Good thing I've got another set of heads.

I had a great time even as the trans really fought us. Ryan, love your shop, the TV's and sound system and wow, that hamburger was really good. Have to do again sometime.

Well I definitely wasn't going to mention it in this thread Yeah I was a little sore this morning myself. I had a lot of fun as well.

No progress on the truck today other than taking off the manifolds and motor mounts. After soaking the bolts in PB blaster overnight I only snapped the head off of one. That was the first one. It seemed slow pressure with a 1/2" ratchet worked well.

I spent most of my afternoon finishing the TV install, cleaning the garage and watching football.

New TV setup. Overkill?

Well I've been collecting parts at a pretty rapid pace in the last two weeks. I'm down to 2 more weeks until the boat goes in storage and then hopefully its GAME ON! I think I've got just about all the big stuff I need for mock-up other than my front brakes.

Wednesday I drove up to Ridetech's headquarters in Jasper where I picked up my HQ shocks. Not sure how they will handle, but they are sweet looking. I also went ahead and picked up an air tank since they had them in stock.





Well their "CAD Drawing" on their website shows its 30" W and Josh from RT measured a tank at 30". I get home to drop it in place and it won't fit inside my 30" opening between frame rails. I measure and get right at 32" wide. GRRRR. Now I'm debating on either trying to find another tank or trim out the frame rails to accommodate the tank. I assume it won't matter if I take a little bit off on the very back of the frame. I don't see where that would affect anything.



I'm basically thinking about notching the frame up to the oval on both sides. Any reason why I shouldn't?





Also my Holley oil pan and gasket arrived from Summit.

Too bad the tank is a little long. Looks like a shave on the corner of the frame will give the clearance. Does anything else mount there?

I think I have the same tank. Did you happen to notice the instructions for draining the tank? Says to remove it periodically or once a year...something like that...since it doesn't have a port for draining. Right, like I am going to do that.

Nothing mounts there so trimming the back of the frame may be my best solution. Accuair also makes a similar tank but is suppose to be 29" wide. I may call and talk to them about getting EXACT dimensions. I'm kind of pissed the drawing on Ridetech's website is wrong. That would not fly in my line of work at all!

Josh at RT told me I'd probably not have to worry about draining, however it's got a port for a drain.

I thought those shocks looked like transmission money.

Hmm...my tank came from RT and all the ports are on the same side. To be able to drain without removing, the ports would have to point down which sn't good for keeping water or debris out of the air lines.
Now I gotta measure my tank. Ordered based on what is supposed to fit and it doesn't.

Edit...correction, my tank does have a drain port.

Nice looking parts. Are you going with a roll pan? Doesn't the rear bumper brackets bolt in the rear frame rail there? Maybe they wouldn't be in the way. Just thought I'd ask. Keep up the work. Trying to get mine apart right now.

The bumper brackets bolt on the side of the frame rails. They're on the frame in Ryan's pictures, but you do have a point, Raymond. If the tank is mounted in that location, access to the nuts on the back of the frame would be difficult to get to, if not impossible with the tank there. Not much of a concern, but still something to think about.

Those do look like nice parts. I'm curious what you'll think of those shocks. I've been playing with the idea of replacing my CPP shocks for the Ridetech stuff. I've heard they're pretty nice, but not from anyone who owns them.

No plans on a roll pan, the bumper brackets bolt on the side as stated.

Good point on access to the bumper brackets. Pretty sure if I go this route, I'm going to have to do some type of "strap" mounting setup for the tank since I'm running the tubular crossmember. These stepsides don't give you very many options to mount unless you go with a step-notch. However I'm not allowed to change my mind anymore so I have to live with what I own.

Thanks. Well it may be a while until I can give you a good review on the shocks, and then I won't have much to compare to. Everybody that has them seems to love them but then again they could be justifying their investment.

I wish I would have found this thread sooner and I could have picked your brain on the PB stuff. I'm waiting on the brown truck for my front and rear kits!
I also attended LS Fest this year. And I was also at the double dog on that rainy Friday...

Let me just say it was an epic weekend but the drive from Denver was absolutely brutal. If you watched some racing you probably saw my buddies 67 Chevelle (blurple- blue/purple) he won the True street class for 10.0 index. Not sure if you walked the pits but we pitted along the fence by the track in the grass it was the 67 Chevelle and that 67 Cougar with the high ram out the hood.

Next time we'll have meet up! (if I make a next time...)

Yeah I would've been sitting a the bar by myself enjoying a couple of West 6th IPAs when you were there. I think I had on a PBFab shirt that day.

This was my second year at LSFest and plan to continue going every year. Hopefully I won't be attending too many more truckless. Definitely have to meet up if you make the trip again.
