Oak wood planks stained 3 differant colors to make it look old, and the raw steel bed strips and hardware were treated with a acid wash to make them look old.

 [/IMG]Not the best pic of it but thats a sheet of oak plywood with 6 coats of spar urethane (I think) and to cover the gap around the sides i trimmed the bed with 3/4X3" oak strips. Only cost me about $50. |

here is my contribution. Red oak boards with some dark Walnut stain and 4 coats of medium build poly. Turned out pretty nice.

I just love how many beautiful treatments and creative ideas are on this thread. As much as I admire how attractive these are, I went with a hard cover instead so I could haul anything I wanted and not have to display how much abuse an aluminum diamond plate floor can endure.

I would have gone metal too if hauling engines. I have a 3/4" rubber mat that I put over my wood to protect it when I use the truck. Just moved 2 households w/it last week.
