Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

The JD7 brakes are what I run on my Blazer. They're a bolt on for the half ton if you have the right year banjo bolts. Easy fix if you don't. The one ton brakes are a totally different animal. Not sure what all you have to change to make those work.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

Well it appears that I was wrong about the 4l80e not needing a controller.
I got 2 options.
One is spending a few hundred $ and buy a controller, or use the harness and computer from the 91 parts truck.

I am going to keep driving it as is and do some more research on the swap.

so as far as the brakes are concerned.

I went though the rear brakes, readjusted everything, bled them a bunch more times and got the brakes working good again.
After a few wks of driving, the rears are slowly starting to grab a bit more every time driven. They now are locking up occasionally.

Looks like I will be back in the system again. I wonder if I got the adjusters in backward.

I had to put off my trip north to pick up the 60 until the end of this month. I picked up a matching master cylinder and hydroboost unit for a 87 K30 with a 6.2. I will swap them and a new power steering pump after the 60 goes in.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

I need to try to keep up here.

I have been just busy with life. I just got back from a trip to Southern oregon.

I have family and friends in the area and I was up there visiting a brother in law that was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. While I was up there I picked up another piece of the puzzle.

A month ago I picked up these tsl's and mounted them on some stock steelies. The dilemma now is what color to paint them.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

That last pic inspired another thing to add to the list.

A sunvisor. But not a re -pop. I want the rounded edge version and they are proving difficult to find and $$$.

I found the one I wanted but missed out on it. After finding out how difficult they are to find, I had to jump on the next one that came up.

I hope to go pick it up next month.
Here is a pic of the style I want.

Here is the actual one.

It came off a similar colored burb. I hope it's in good shape.

Which leads me to this.

Boom!

A trailer that can fit my burbs!

My father in-law was selling it so I jumped on it too.

I feel like I hit the lotto, but it's all hard work as payments.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

It’s been a long yr.

I’ve been working on a friends truck that passed away. It’s a 75 k10 with 1 tons under it.

I picked up this 84 c30 with a 6.2/400 combo, in the hopes of building a tow rig.

I also got this Badass Buckstop Bumper!

Lots of cool stuff going on in this thread. Funny I saw the "visor" in the pic too and it looked pretty nice.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

Dang…
I can’t believe it’s been so many years since I last posted an update.

I still have it. The 6.2/th400 have been gone for 4+ yrs. It wasn’t long after my last post did I start looking at different power trains for it. I actually bought 3 different setups before I settled. I started hauling more and more and then decided I needed a new setup. I got a low mileage 5.3 and bought up all the swap parts needed to install it. A few month later, I sold it to buy a bigger/running 6.0 LS. I wasn’t happy with a buddies truck that I drove with a 6.0, so I reached out to my buddy that owned Pacific Fab.

I started going down the ls swap rabbit hole. I was going to buy all the parts to convert my 30k mileage 6.0 to a 6.2. After numerous calls and research, I ended up trashing the 4.8/5.3/6.0/6.2 swap. I ended up going with a gen VII vortec 8100 and a nv4500. I was able to source everything I needed and did the swap myself.

Re: 87 V20 D/D and Road trip Burb

I unfortunately spun a rod bearing in my 8.1 while in sand lake OREGON. At the time I was in Washington state doing heavy equipment training and I was 3 weeks into a 8 wk program. The CZU fire was happening back home and my house was on evacuation orders. I couldn’t get the burb towed home, or the hotel I was staying at.

I am super fortunate to have amazing friends, and a friend drove from Boise to Longview Wa to pick up my burb and store it at a friends shop until I could deal with it. At the end of the program, my wife flew into Washington and we rented a pick up to purchase a used 8.1 in Roseville Oregon. We picked it up and hauled it home to Santa Cruz. 6 months later, we loaded the used 8.1 into our small utility trailer and hauled it to my friends shop in Mt Home Idaho. I showed up Thursday and we drove both burbs back home on Monday morning.

8.1s are awesome, but it's super rad with the NV4500!
