Re: Has anyone improved ride/handling in Jimmy/Blazer?

Is there a way to add a front sway bar without swapping out the front crossmember?

I added a sway bar from a 1986 k20. I made these plates out of 1/4 steel. Works good. Uses stock cross member

Can you post more pictures of how this connects?

Re: Has anyone improved ride/handling in Jimmy/Blazer?

I read through all of the posts an i'll add this idea! Add a plastic leaf spring liner designed to reduce inner leaf friction. I re-sprung my 48 willy's pickup after the stock 7 stack narrow set flattened out from a sbc v8. I did this the same time i put a scout disc brake front end under neath it and a ford axle out back and did the same re spring job in the rear. It made a world of difference with fewer leafs (4 i think) and reduced inner leaf friction was awesome!!

I've heard it's dangerous to have a front sway bar without a rear. If that's true, which seems to make sense make sure you do the rear first.

Re: Has anyone improved ride/handling in Jimmy/Blazer?

GM made millions of cars and trucks with front sway bar and no rears. I used a piece of steel 8x2x1/4 to make the brace for the bar mounting brackets. the spring top plates are from the 86 K20 the bar came from

Re: Has anyone improved ride/handling in Jimmy/Blazer?

Quick question on this subject,
Does anyone have the part number for the Redhead steering box that would fit a 1972 gmc jimmy 4x4? I'm only seeing boxes for 2wd applications on their website.

Part #2851 was the part number a year or so ago - you'll need to tell them if you want 15:1 or 18:1.

Thanks for the pics, never seen this setup with the bar connecting to the axle before. Interesting...

Time to go square body hunting....
