No - the paint shop is a self contained area of the plant.

Hoods are painted either hanging vertically from the forward edge, or laying flat in vehicle position (with the fenders on either side) in front of the body on a paint buck/fixture.

In fact, at Flint Assembly, the cab and pickup box were painted at one end of the plant and the front end sheetmetal (hoods and fenders) were painted at the other end of the plant.

(sidebar - Relative to Buicks built in Flint - the bodies were built on the north end of town at Fisher Body, and the front clip was painted south of town at the assembly plant).

Re: underside of hood color??????

My truck is a Fremont/Ca. truck....and I think I'm in with the over spray group.
By that, I mean...on the front lower surface (near the grill) and on the back lower hinge/cross frame (near the cowl)...there seems to be a lot of blue...but not pure blue/solid directed paint.
Everything in between seems to be black.
