Dana 60 question.

Does anyone know a part number and brand for the axle flange gasket on a Dana 60 full floater rear from a 70 Chevy C20. Seams all the parts stores here get a Felpro gasket thats not right. Everyone has the same wrong gasket. Also what store/source. Thanks Jim

Have you tried going to a couple of websites, like Randy's Ring and Pinion or Driveline Speciality in MI. Most 4-wheel drive repair outfits online or local should know and have what your looking for.

Hadn't checked those but checked a bunch. There ain't much info in any manuals either. My trucks manual has no info on Dana 60. The Dana manual says to reference each Ford, Dodge, Chevy manuals for torque specs. Every web site I go to has different torque specs. Kinda strange. Our local 4x4 shop gave me the same part number as all the parts places, but they don't fit. Thanks for these sites, I'll check them.

What # did they give you ? The D60 in the GMC trucks used # 55350.

What's the diameter of the gaskets that are wrong?

Thats the felpro number above. The boltholes don't line up, smaller circle on inside diameter, smaller bolthole circle as well on the felpro gasket. The outside diameter looks about right. I'd make my own or use RTv but this is the drive axle flange. Lots of torque transferred here, and it says any sealer or debri would cause the bolts to loosen quickly. Thanks for looking. Jim

I think this is the Dana number 33388, GM p/n 3941839, LMK.

The 55350 is what I just used on my 72 D60 , have you check the Bom on the axle to check what's it from ? Yes can use sealer on the flange and I would use " right stuff " not the cheap silicone.

Thanks Dave. The DTS site had one listed as flange gasket but with a picture of the cover gasket. Kept passing by it until I read the desription. Thanks again. Jim

Good, I'm glad you were able to find it!
As our trucks get older, good parts sources have become more difficult to locate. The local chain parts store, sometimes doesn't carry the item or even know what it is your talking about. Often times, just last week the person behind the counter was working at some fast food place or doesn't care. Good customer service from any of the chain parts stores is a uncommon commodity.

I've been lucky, as here in Russellville, everyone I've dealt with has been more than willing to go look in books or whatever to at least try and find parts, Most of the time, they just can't find anything in their books or on the computer. The lady at one parts place, I won't name it but its Irish I think, spent a good hour getting me the right hub seals, on the phone and in the book. Thats service. Another place the guy called another place in town and found me some wheel cylinder rebuild kits in stock. Guess it helps to smile and say thanks a lot. And pay their salaries with what you buy. Jim. PS, I just used copper coat and reused my old axle flange gaskets to get it back together.

My Chassis Service Manual says to clean all grease and oil from the gasket area or it may cause the bolts to loosen. It doesn't mention sealer. I'm using sealer on mine.

Thanks LockDoc. My bad, thats what mine says too. I went with the old gaskets and coppercoat. Should seal it up. I am ordering the ones from DTS when I order rebuild kit and Posi and gears for other rearend thats in truck now. Just going to test the 3.54 gears in this one out first and see how I like for towing. Thanks.Jim

I was an MM(SW) target for 10 years and a GSM(Gas Turbines) for another 10 years, being a snipe ain't easy, just ask my back knees and feet. Anyway those folks at Quad 4x4 are the best. They have stuff you can not get anywhere else. If you call them they are very friendly. The gaskets I got were hand made but are exactly like the ones off of my D60. They also had other Dana related stuff that is extremely hard to find like my axle tube seals for my D44 and parts for my Dana 44 lockout hubs. Like I said they are the only ones for alot of stuff I did alot of research before finding these people. The one thing I still cant find is the round dust shield under my front rotors that rusted off of my back plates on my D44 front end, I just cut em off and let it be. Having a 3/4 ton 4x4 makes for alot of parts searching.

I here that. Bad enough with a 2wd. I spent 8 yrs in. 5and half in Hawaii. Wasn't bad. The thing I miss the most, besides the friends, is the Auto hobby shops. You couldn't beat them. Everything you needed to work on cars or trucks.
