I'm a Newbie here

I'm new to this forum and new to 4x4's but not Chevy trucks. I bought a 75 SWB Chevy to build. Hope to get plenty of ideas and tips from you folks. Lots of nice trucks here. I'm not sure what all I'll do to the truck just yet, still planning. It has a 400cid engine, of which I'm not sure I'll keep.

Here is a pic

Hey...WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!!!

That`s a nice shortbed as it is.Is it a`79?You can to the friendliest 4wd spot on the internet.there are other dedicated to off road sites with tons of info. But,we have plenty members here who go there, too (and actually do the real world thing). So,it`s a best of both worlds.Three worlds, really.Cuz we won`t diss you if you want to do something other than build a rock crawler.

I see you`re a Smokey Mountain Boy from Murphy.Years ago my sister lived in Brasstown and I never can find anyone who`s heard of it.We have a good many members around the board from your region.A great bunch!

Re: I'm a Newbie here

Thanks for the welcome. The truck is a '75. Brasstown is just up or down the road from me. I'm not originally from this area, been here about 8 years, love it. This area has been quite famous for it's 4x4's and trails, however the GOVERMENT closed down the main trails at Tellico which were the most well known.

Yeah, the old truck is in decent shape for the most part, but does need a good bit of work, new parts etc. I'm not in a hurry, it is my toy.

If so, it has had the bed replaced at some point. Pre-'79 trucks didn't have the "door" over the fuel filler, the cap was just sticking out of the side of the body.

Re: I'm a Newbie here

Yeah,I was going by the fuels door.No matter, though,it looks nice.So the trails at Tellico Plains are shut down?BOO!! I always wanted to run down there.the last time I was in the area was`05 and I saw alot of trailered rigs on the hiway.I figured that`s where they were going.I was on my bike down there to enjoy the equally great roads in WNC and East TN.

Re: I'm a Newbie here

Hmmm, Didn't know that. Title does say 1975. It has dual fuel tanks, doors on both sides too! No telling what else has been done to it over the years

Re: I'm a Newbie here

Nothin`unusual there. The bedsides had improved drain holes added in`78 to help prevent wheel arch rust and beds get banged up worse than the cab. It`s common to see a later bed swapped on.
